That Chavez family "pride" (and stupidity) just won't let them give Sergio all the credit he deserves.

BTW, does anybody but me think that Chavez Sr. is back on the sauce & dope.

To Juniors credit he took Sergio's punches well, of course that's to be expected when you're a fucking Crusierweight.
With that sellout crowd, you can put money down on there being a rematch. Every promoter & fighter dreams of having a night like that. Only thing is Martinez won't be accepting a 30/70 split.
Martinez clearly deserves more than 30. It'll be 60/40 in the rematch. With him getting the 40. He can push for more if he wants. But he won't get it. Cuz facts remain the same. Chavez brings in the fans. Not him

Now that the artificial "0" is gone.... so has some of the buzz. And if and when he moves up to cruiserweight where he belongs... and loses the occasional fight against lesser-name opposition, (but his own size).... the buzz will slowly fade away.

History will mostly remember Junior as a pretty good fighter with a good chin, who rode his daddy's coattails to a bloated record..... and got his ass handed to him in a complete shutout against the first world-class opposition he ever faced. He will always be remembered also as a beneficiary of shady match-making by his godfather, Jose Sulaiman..... as well as shady proceedings in the doping tests of several of his fights.

Mexicans will continue to love him, just because he's Mexican..... the same as the love for convicted cheater Margarito. Seems you can pull off the worst shit in boxing, but..... as long as you're Mexican, you get a free pass.

A word of advice: Save your adulation for up and coming young Mexicans, like Canelo. He's got no "Saul Alvarez Sr." pulling strings with the WBC, or bloating up his record on bums. And learn to hate on fighters based on facts, not nationality.

Note: For the onslaught that is sure to come..... I've publicly praised Mexican fighters like JMM, Barrera, and Finito Lopez. Meanwhile, I've hated on local fighters like John Ruiz, Hector Camacho, and Daniel Santos. By contrast, the little "Mexican connection" in here has been incapable of showing even 1% of that objectiveness.

    No hate.... just the facts.

You do realize that he won 11 of 12 rounds? It wasn't a close fight.

If they're going to fight for the WBC title Martinez has to get more money. If I remember correctly a champion fighting in the other guy's home country gets 75% of the purse, although they'll claim Junior's home country is Mexico to avoid that. Still, Chavez may be the draw but Martinez has the belt. Maybe Sulaiman makes up new rules for the rematch.

There aren't excuses needed. He embarrassed Junior. It just makes his victory all the better that he did it without one hand for 2/3 of the fight. Same goes for Ward's victory over Froch.

thats not what i've been reading... i've read that he fell cause of his hurt knee, he had a cut on his head, he got knocked down cause he was too brave, he won't be able to rematch cause he's too old to recover from surgery.

thats a whole lotta belly achin' for fans of a guy who dominated the fight.

All of a sudden you're an Alvarez fan. Yeah, ok.

Chavez being Mexican means he has heart. Which he showed. If he was Puerto Rican he would of quit around the 9th or 10th round

Daniel Santos is not Mexican; He is Peurto Rican, and he does not even fight like a Mexican.

The "love" the Mexican's give their fighters is unshakable b/c they pull for their fighter to deliver them from the trenches. When Chavez (Sr) KOed Meldrick Taylor, they did not rag on him for losing 8 of 12 rounds BADly in that fight. They praised him for delivering the punches when he needed it.

CHavezJr, by contrast, chose not to listen to his trainer and continue to get pummeled well into the Championship rounds. He had never landed any of the devastating punches earlier in the fight to deliver late anyway. The only reason he had a shot at knocking Martinez out is because Martinez opened up and tried to catch Chavez and end the fight.
