Why are Klitschko fans and Tyson fans mutually exclusive groups? Can't they both be admired in their own right for what they've accomplished? Typically predictable of you, Lyle, to rattle off 9 heavyweights who would "beat a prime Tyson". Personally I think it's a reaction to those who maintain that Tyson would've beaten Wlad. In your opinion... not only does he NOT beat Wlad.... but here are a bunch of bums who Tyson would've lost to as well.

Tyson fans are almost as bad. Wlad suffered some ugly KO's early in his career, so Tyson would undoubtedly tear him a new one. Is it that simple? Wlad has evolved, to be sure. His dominance of the division is pretty unparalleled in HW history. Partly Wlad.... partly the division. Whatever the reason, it's the truth. Tyson lost to a big, strong, athletic heavyweight in Buster Douglas. That Douglas was never that good again, is another story. But that night he was. He showed the world that if you have size, power... and refuse to get bullied by Tyson.... you have a chance. If Wlad fought like Douglas did.... he certainly has the size and power. Chin? I don't know. Douglas did get up after that left hook from hell, and with the benefit of a long count. But he got up. Would Wlad? Who knows....

Can't one be great without the other being shit?

I'm not the world's biggest Tyson fan, Lyle. You're barking up the wrong tree. I just cringe when I see you write that any number of mediocre heavyweights of the past years could've beaten a prime Mike Tyson. You're so defensive of Wlad... that sometimes that can carry to being dismissive of other great heavyweights of the past.

I'm defensive of Wlad because he too is a great fighter and people are slow to respect fighters that are still fighting. When people try to tell me that the bums from other eras would beat Wladimir #1 It's wrong and #2 it's disrespectful.

When I listed the boxers I thought could beat Tyson I was respectful and I was thoughtful. If people want to consider Ray Mercer a "bum" then fine, he certainly wasn't but whatever. Ray had a very inconsistent career but at one point in time do I think he had the skills & abilities to handle Mike Tyson? YES. Ray Mercer really pushed Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, he had a chin, he had good fundamentals and he'd be around for 12 rounds vs Tyson who after about 5 rounds would start to show some wear because the pressure fighting style plus the power punching is taxing on stamina.

Now sure Ray had an inconsistent career but the Ray Mercer that demolished Tommy Morrison and the Ray Mercer that went toe to toe with Lennox Lewis WOULD beat Mike Tyson, I'm sorry but that's just the way I see it. Ray had everything to beat Tyson in his arsenal.

Sonny Liston could be added to the list as well, he handled Floyd Patterson REALLY easily, I'm sure Tyson would last longer, but how much longer is the question.

Rays power wasnt that great. Morrisons chin wasnt that great. Mercer would never have done what Tyson did to Holmes, he also couldnt hurt Lewis even though he landed a fair few shots, so he doesnt even hit as hard as Mikes old sparring partner

OK reasonable reply about Mercer but he was knocked down by Holyfield by a left hook and as great as his chin was, Tyson could have stopped him.
