I'm a little concerned about Calgary to be honest. I'm moving there for grad school, so if I might well leave when I'm done, but the weather is going to be a HUGE change. Looking forward to the sunshine though.

Whats the major? I went to U of C. Winters can be tough but you get those Chinooks. At least its not dark all the time like it is here. If you are going to drive once there go downtown and master the one ways and the alleys. Weather is going to be huge for you. Wish I could sugar coat it lol.

You picked a good study as everyone is a victim these days. Its a growth industry. You could be teaching basic language skills in a decade. You might get a few -30's but thanks to global warming they are now rare occurrences. The humidity level today is probably equal to the West coast. When I was a kid there it was 0 like the Sahara.

That is very noble. The first winter will be tough. Up here it was brutal when I first moved. -45 sometimes for 3 weeks straight w/o a break. But the thing I found the hardest up here for the first few years was the darkness in the winter and it really not getting light out and then the reverse in the summer and it never getting dark. 40 minutes from Calgary and you are in the Rockies.

I had a similar problem with Vancouver when I moved here. It wasn't nearly as cold, but it was SO dark and gloomy. It would be quite dark and raining for weeks at a time - I would wake up, drive to work, and then come home in what felt like perpetual, soggy dusk. I hated it.

The last 3 summers have kinda sucked. Very wet as you described and one of the reasons we put up with the long dark winters used to be because of the magical summers. The constant raining would get to me if I lived in Van. At least you will get summers in Calgary.
