I think Meldrick Taylor is one of the best examples of that...blazing handspeed, great defense....but a cutesy style wasn't in his heart, he was a Philly fighter and wanted to fight a face first style.....he could have been Floyd Mayweather Jr before Floyd Mayweather Jr. laced up the gloves.
Taylor chose to stand and trade with Chavez, which is suicide.

And even if the fight hadn't been stopped, Taylor was in BAD shape by the end of it. I don't think too much would have changed.
