That is wilfull misrepresentation of the truth. Seuss was himself mature enough to grow and stop calling the character a Chinaman and realise that completing the stereotype with slanty eyes and a triangle hat was actually selling himself short. The mural is staying, with only that character replaced, and the majority of the book series will remain.
