I'm not arguing that PBF is not a better welter, I just don't understand how it could be any different at 140. PBF won't have any trouble making weight, and Hatton won't be any quicker or hit any harder (if that was the case, why not come in at 140 before?).
I just don't see any way Hatton beats PBF. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be cheering for him, I just don't see how it can happen.
I talked to an older Cousin of Floyd Sr.'s at the bar the other day. He was sporting some serious bling he claimed Little Floyd had bought him. I asked him about Floyd's return and he said no way, that Floyd is happy and that retiring undefeated means a lot to him.
For what its worth I think Floyd is going to be broke sooner or later and have to fight. He spends money like water and throws it around all the time. The guy has gifted Millions to his distant family and so called friends. He keeps throwing these lame ass events around town that we all know aren't making money.
The winner of the Pacman-De la Hoya fight makes the most sense and the most money. Can't wait to see him fight again.
not suprise he only 31 plus 1p4p returning $$$
Way to many If's ,maybe's,coulda's.When I see Mayweather say he has the slightest interest in Fighting,I'll bite.Until then I contend that he needs to fight a current,Viable,Repsected and due Welterweight...Williams,Mosley,Cotto,Clottey,Marga rito.A Hatton rematch will prove absolutley nothing, except that Floyd can beat him again, probally in more definative fashion. What a statement for legacy.
EXACTLY.. would rep if i could..
to say that this fight would be different at a lighter weight is meaningless.. Floyd DID fight at the lower weights and reigned supreme.. This argument would make sense if you were talking about a bigger fighter wanting floyd to gain weight and fight at a higher weight class, not arguing to have him move down to a weight that he fought at AND below and was even better than he is at welter..
as far as Taeth's response, saying that hatton will have a better chance than cotto/margarito i will not ever believe.. Margarito clearly isn't the most "skilled" boxer but he is much MUCH bigger than hatton and hits harder, and doesn't stop coming.. he's basically a bigger version of Hatton, so i don't see how hatton would be a tougher fight.. and Cotto, in the same respect is a much more skilled fighter than hatton, and has beaten top notch fighters.. his speed and footwork would give floyd a fight..
you said hattons style gave floyd problems early, which is sort of true, but it only took him 3-4 rounds to figure him out? after that floyd toyed with him.. anyone who has an awkward, unconventional style will give a fighter issues.. calzaghe got knocked down by rjj and hopkins in the first round of their fights, but would you say that he would have a hard time beating them if they were in a rematch? i'm not too sure about that..
Hatton will lose to floyd from 130 to heavyweight, any day of the week..
Maybe you haven't boxed before, maybe you have, but facing a guy with great footspeed is way more tiring if they are putting pressure on you, Why do you think Calzaghe was so much more of a draining fight on Mayweather? Hatton came forward the whole fight against Floyd, just like Margarito would, He is very strong, and because he is short he has a really low center of gravity. Margarito doesn't use his physical body to beat guys up, as much as he uses his size and chin to withstand punches, while punching himself.
It actually took Mayweather up until the 8th round before he literally toying wtih Hatton, before that he didn't have time to, Hatton got in too quick, but Mayweather was too eluvise for Hatton to land effectively.
As for the Calzaghe-Hopkins comparison to me this is like saying that Pavlik would have a better chance than Hopkins against Calzaghe because he hasn't fought him yet. Its not true. That fight could have gone either way, and Hopkins could have won it. In this situation I don't see what Cotto and Margarito bring to the table that really troubles Mayweather, they don't have great speed, Cotto has decent handspeed, but his footspeed isn't that great, but he isn't as faster as Hatton, he isn't necessarily more durable, and he
also isn't harder to hit for a guy like Mayweather, he is better offensively, but that never seems to be a problem for Mayweather. Margarito, if he could keep Mayweather on the ropes might be able to have some modicum of success only because the judges seem to overvalue punching a lot, but in reality he wouldn't land almost anything. He is effective against most people, but so was Hatton who was much quicker, and he couldn't land very well on mayweather at all. Also I don't see Margarito keeping Mayweather on the ropes if Floyd doesn't want to be there, countless people have tried, and it takes a much quicker man to keep Mayweather on the ropes like Oscar De La HOya or Hatton, otherwise you look foolish like Baldomir did when he would miss 12+ shots in a row everytime he did get Mayweather on teh ropes, Hell if OScar isn't landing on Mayweather when he had Floyd on the rope,s what will Margarito land?
If floyd came back i would love for him to fight margarito. Margarito and his "cult" have been begging for this fight for years. Floyd told Margo that when the time was right they would fight for big money. I believe the time is right Margo is a proven fighter now, and a big name not to mention p4p ranked. That being said i belive floyd outclasses him in similar fashion to what cotto did in the first rounds with margo. I just want him to prove to the people and get the little splinter that has been annoying for quite long.
Hidden Content There is no reward for second place
I hope that it is true. We are being robbed of one of the greatest fighters in history in his prime years (or at least something close to them)
agree 100% with the margarito thing, look at him vs clotty the first 4 rounds, i know antonio is a slow starter but against mayweather id be shocked if he landed a punch.
If mayweather and hatton ever fought at 140 and flloyd won (which i dont think he would well 50/50 imo) i$ would give mayweather alot of credit
simply because hatton is undefeated and the undisputed king at that weight (as long as he beats paulie) with may snr in his corner it would be awsum to say the least![]()
Sooo, if his size and chin aren't considered physical, then what is?
I really can't stress this enough, and i know you guys may be Hatton fans, but seriously, just saying that at 140 it would be different, is both buying into the hype, and creating hype for the fight, that isn't really there.. It's like those HBO shows that hype you up for the fight, and make everything seem like both fighters are top notch and it will be a good fight, and then reality sets in after the bell rings.. After Hatton lost, people said, Hatton didn't have the defense, Floyd was too big for him, the ref cost Hatton the fight, Floyd cheats.. I mean, these are all the things that are making you guys believe that Hatton would win under different circumstances.. But if that's what helps you get to sleep at night, then don't let me try to change your mind!
