Default After watching Roy Jones taunt Lacy,he got what he deserved against Calzaghe!

Calzaghe got a bit of flak for the way he show boated against Roy Jones but after watching Jones taunt and make fun of a beaten fighter in Lacy I wish Calzaghe had done a bit more showboating.

Jones looked very good and sharp in the fight but it just goes to show how good Calzaghe is/was to beat Jones with ease when they fought.

Personally I think it was more the fact how shite and shot mentally Lacy is, Calzaghe was past his best against RJJ, and RJJ was past his best. I still think RJJ would put a beatdown on Calzaghe prime for prime.

I'm with you bud. I don't like showboaters period, but in the case of the crap that Jones took from Calzaghe, its live by the sword, die by the sword.

I think what we're gonna see from here on out is a lowering of Jones' standards. The calibre of the fighter that Jones has the kahones to showboat against will steadily decline.

edit. Actually, it's hotdogs I hate, Roy is probably the biggest of that bunch. Also Calzaghe's was particularly lame. Showboaters are something a little different, Ali for example, never bothered me that much.

I didn't like seeing Calzaghe do it against Jones, or Jones against Lacy, as in each case it was a fighter doing it to a guy who had nothing left (or in Calzaghe's case, a guy who was a shadow of his former self). I'd like to see Jones try that against Dawson, Hopkins, Johnson or even Tavoris Cloud. Both of them doing it was embarassing, because it was not a case of showboating to show their talent, more to show the opponent's weakness. This was not showboating for the sake of showing their skill, it was doing it because they knew their opponent was beaten.

I don't see anything wrong with showboating (well maybe it's "wrong" if a clear mismatch beforehand). Maybe it is humiliating to the other fighter but should it bother him then it's clearly a good tactic to use.

I clapped and let out some "whao!" watching Roy's exhibition against Lacy.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. So Roy had NOTHING to complain about getting a taste of his own medicine against Calzaghe (and he didn't complain).

showboating is ok but jones looked a bit silly jumping up and down.
lacy never had a chance at any stage perhaps he should of claimed a shoulder or back injury a few weeks ago ,he would of saved himself from a beating

That's a good point. It's a valid tactic, I don't think hotdogging is wrong per se, I just don't like it. But the thing is with Roy, he never needed it. He was always perfectly capable of thrashing his overmatched opposition without it. As far back as you want to go. So it truly was just hot-dogging. And yeah, Roy never complained about Calzaghe, but his fans sure did.

A good counterpoint is Leonard-Duran II. I'd say a little hotdogging probably worked wonders for Leonard.

I actually thought it was great when Jones in his prime & Mayweather were doing that, absolutely loved it, or when Roy would turn his back on opponents. However, they were doing it not because their opponent was weak (Jesus Chavez gave Mayweather the 2nd toughest fight of his career IMO) but because they were that good. They didn't do it because they were facing a shell, which I felt was what Calzaghe & Jones did. I didn't mind Calzaghe doing it against Lacy, because it was demonstrating just how good he was. Same with Hopkins/Pavlik, Leonard vs Duran/Hagler. But Jones & Calzaghe were doing it because they could get away with it, neither now would have risked that against an elite LHW.

It's part of the show though. The majority of the crowd love that stuff. You always hear the cheers go up which has the bonus of influencing the judges.

Lamley is kind of a @ss for yelling "eagles or falcons Floyd" during the round. No respect for Bruseles who was fighting his best. As for showboating, I have no problem with it, but dont be surprised if its a close round and the judges give it to the other guy in a tight fight. Judah-Baldomir or Jones-Tarver two are examples of when the other guy isnt bother by the showboating, and in turn the showboater is the one who get broken. Campbell-Peden is another case of boxing getting the better of ego. Still, I like entertainment in the ring, Ive done my share of showboating as im sure most boxer have. Its just part of the entertainment aspect of the sport.

Could you explain the difference to me? I don't know the difference between "hotdoggers" and "showboaters".

I always thought it was so hypocritcal when I heard guys say they hate Roy Jones or Calzaghe because they taunt their opponents in the ring, but will list Ali as one of their favorite fighters. I mean what was Ali? Screaming "Whats my name?" at someone while he's pummelling him, or doing the shuffle, or standing over an old, washed up Archie Moore after flooring him.
