You guys can argue all you want but the FACT is that Vitali was winning the fight, that is a FACT....don't tell me about "Vitali's face was bleeding, there were big cuts, he was gassing out" blah blah blah...58-56, 58-56, 58-56....get that through your head

I have been following this forum for a while but finally decided to register because of this thread, and Lyle here. I keep reading valid points on both sides of this discussion but here is the part I have a problem with. As you just said Lyle, Vitali was winning the fight by the score cards, however, as several people have brought up, Lennox had won the last 2 rounds before the fight was stopped. The likely hood is that the scale would have tipped in Lennox's favor the way things were going. But all speculation aside, Lennox won. Some people believe there should have been a rematch but just because they believe that doesn't mean it is truth. What did Lennox have to gain from a rematch? Like people have said, he was getting older and maybe his time was up. So he went out on a positive note. Just because you and others would like to see Lennox beaten, that is your view, but if Lennox believed he would not be able to keep up the performance of his past then it is not logical at all to take a rematch that would only benefit the up and coming Vitali, and those of you who just wanted to see Lennox lose to Vitali to prove some kind of point.

Yep, having thre old farts at ringside saying you were 2 points ahead at the half way stage of a fight is far more impressive than giving a guy 50 stitches and leaving him looking like a bomb blast victim

    yeh vitali was winning.

lennox lewis showed some atrocious technique in this fight. truly terrible stuff. he's not on mike tyson's level skill-wise, nor bowe's

lewis was an impressive fighter. but his skillset was basic. no doubt about it. what he did have was strength, stature, and a massive punch in his arsenal.

skill-wise, bowe is a league above.

lewis was fighting a fight one too many yet still would of gone on to knock out klitschko that night

Vitali was throwing the bigger shots through 2-4 but in 5-6 it was all lewis and he would stopped vitali eventually.

A half baked lennox busted up the very man that has dominated this division for the last half a decade

    that says it all!!!!!!!!!!

....I'm not arguing the outcome of the fight, I'm arguing that there should have been a rematch and I based my claim on #1 The score cards #2 The freakish turn of events that caused the cut and #3 the PRECEDENT of Ali-Quarry.

Gotta agree with that. The point is there should have been a rematch. Half of you are crying for Paulie Malanaggi to get a rematch. This was a close fight. The person who was winning lost on a cut, not a ko. Losing on cuts isn't a clear decisive win and proves who the better fighter was. Especially when losing on the score cards.

There should have been a rematch.

So every fighter that losses by a cut which was caused by a punch or punches has a right to a rematch? Weather you are winning or not you carnt continue if your face is severly damaged.

OK, let's not have any rematches...Lewis got KTFO vs Rahman and he got a rematch, he got did in by Oliver McCall and he got a rematch...he got done wrong by the judges vs Evander Holyfield and he got a rematch then too.

So excuse me for questioning the Great Lennox Lewis and the FACT Vitali Klitschko deserved a rematch....Lennox got all the rematches he ever wanted and when it came time for him to give one to another fighter that EARNED it, he bailed like a chump

correct me if im wrong but wasnt it a 12 round fight. So what if vitali was 2pts up, 1 knockdown woulda put paid to that. Points mean NOTHING until the bell for the end of the fight. We all have our opinions but for once just accept the outcome
