Danny Green did real well. Roy lost like a champ and gave full credit with no excuses suppose we should all follow suit.
Wonder if Joe could be coaxed out of retirement that would be a style match.

Im sorry but this just goes to show how much Joe Calzaghe's career, is a farce it really is. Everyone knew Roy Jones Jr was shot, and Joe Calzaghe said he would never fight Roy Jones Jr because it wouldn't mean anything, but he did anyway. And this fight really just shows how much Joe Calzaghe's win over Roy Jones Jr is a joke.
His win over Mikkel Kessler isn't that much better either, i said last week i'd reserve judgment until i see how bad Andre Ward beat him. And really and truthfully Andre Ward made Mikkel Kessler look stupid probably winning every round, and i do know hindsight is a wonderful thing and ETC.
But if you think about it Mikkel Kessler's best win is against Anthony Mundine, who is good but how good exactly ? he hasn't fought anyone since Danny Green in 2006.
I give him credit for the Bernard Hopkins fight, but i still think he lost that fight. And i think a prime Bernard Hopkins, who had the stamina. And more punching power would of stopped Joe Calzaghe IMO.
The Chris Eubank fight is hard for me to judge, because Chris Eubank was past his prime and wasn't long coming off losing to Steve Collins x2, and he did have to lose a stupid amount of weight to fight Joe Calzaghe. But he did go on to have 2 brave efforts vs Carl Thompson, so really it all depends on how you look at it.
But other than that who else is there really ?
Robin Reid = A fighter many believe he lost to, who had also recently lost to a 40+ Thulani Malinga.
Jeff Lacy = A fighter i never thought that much of, and i've stated this many times. Even in his so called prime he had alot of trouble vs Omar Sheika, Syd Vanderpool. And since the Joe Calzaghe fight he has been embarrassing.
Sakio Bika = A nobody at that time, he has since won The Contender but no one knows how good he is really. But he was beaten one sidely by Lucian Bute.
Mario Veit = Weak chinned Mario Veit ? don't make me laugh.
Byron Mitchell = his career was so short no one knows, that much about him. He did have a close fight against Sven Ottke, but then again who didn't. He had two struggles vs Manny Siaca, and 2 close fights vs Bruno Girad. And thats basically his career, his best win is against Manny Siaca, and when Byron Mitchell comeback out of retirement, he was embarrassed by a shot Richard Hall.
Charles Brewer = Past his best and had not long lost to Antwun Echols, in a thriller. I don't really much about Charles Brewer, except he was exciting. And that he beat a shot Herol Graham after being decked a few times himself.
Richie Woodhall = Not long coming off a bad loss to Markus Beyer, where he was decked 3 times by the feather fisted Markus Beyer. Not only was Richie Woodhall past his best, he also had an injury to his right arm. Where if he missed a punch with his right arm, while its extended. It would be in alot of pain, the highlight of Richie Woodhall's career is beating a 40+ Thulani Malinga, the same one Robin Reid lost to. The only time he stepped up to world class level aka Keith Holmes, he was beaten convincingly.
Most of Joe Calzaghe's best wins are against fighters, who recently had bad losses or bad performances. Or who were past there best, his only beaten two prime fighters Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler. Jeff Lacy was never that good IMO, and Mikkel Kessler i thought was a good fighter, but i did state many times i didn't know how good he was, because he had only fought one really good fighter in Anthony Mundine.

Totally agree with this i have been saying this for years about Calzaghe but on a more important note im gutted for Roy he needs to hang them up the old Roy would not have losses to Tarver,Johnson,Calzaghe and Green these guys have nothing on Roy i wish he had retired after Ruiz fight or at least 1st Tarver fight.

Man me too! I was heartbroken to see it live sitting there in the arean. After Roy got dropped so quickly I duno what dropped next (mind you just as quick), my jaw or my heart... Man my heart sank...
I've seen it. It is sad, very sad. No grand dads final (hopkins vs Jones) to end up their careers, it has to be very over now. All the credit to Green, all my sadness for one of my favorite all time boxers and legend, it's seriously time to call it a day.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
I'm not a Calzaghe fan, and I do believe he owns one of the most padded records in the game, but I honestly dont think you can really draw comparisons off this loss for Jones. The bottom line is this is the fight game and anything can happen, and as Green has just proven, anything did happen.
Roy's performance last time out against Lacy was pretty spectacular, even though I have never rated Lacy more than a decent club fighter at best. Roy has never been the same figther for me since he had to lose 30lbs of muscle after the Ruiz fight. At his age, his body couldnt cope, and the after effects, see Tarver and Johnson.
In saying that, he has looked pretty solid of late, albeit against lower tier opposition. The Calzaghe fight looked more like a sparring session if truth be known. Roy didnt even look interested in that fight.
As for Calzaghe against Hopkins, I had Hopkins winning that fight.I thought he made Joe look silly at times. Too clever, too slick, but sadly, and this is typical of Nard's career, he just looked to do enough and nothing more. He also gave Joe justification for the moral victor because of the bullshit he was pulling in the ring.
For me Calzaghe's best win was against Eubank. I dont think Chris was over the hill at the point at all, and to drop that iron chin early and box the way he did afterwards was certainly his most impressive performance in my book.
I was actually at the Calzaghe v Reid fight and had Reid winning that by a couple of points.
Anyway, like I said, I dont think this Green win has any bearing on Calzaghe's legacy. It's just a very sad day, and I'm sure even with the elation, deep down, the Aussie boxing fans probably feel the same.
Just my 2 cents.

Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.
IMO it does, Calzaghe hit Jones with everything he had and never really hurt him, yet Jones dropped Calzaghe like a bitch, and the fact that a SHOT Jones was able to beat and stop Lacey the way he did, only to then get stopped by Green, pretty much shows how unimpressive Calzaghe's win over Jones really was, Calzaghe is lucky to have the 0, and it's an 0 that can actually fool people to think that he was an actual great fighter![]()
I can't believe you can call Joe Calzaghe's career a a farce. It might not be the most spectacular, i'll give you that but it's far from a farce![]()

Original & Best: The Sugar Man
Yes it is its all one big smoke and mirrors, everything i stated in my rant is a fact. If you disagree with my post tell me what you disagree with, im sorry but i think Joe Calzaghe is a total tosser.
Since he's been retired i've seen him in the paper, making himself look like a complete plonker. And when he was fighting he would constantly contradict himself.
Im not saying its all his fault that he hasn't got the big names on his record, but he could of took more risks than he actually did. And for somebody who had all those title defenses, i think its a joke that the American's had hardly ever heard of him. Until he beat Jeff Lacy, another ridiculously overrated fighter.
Compare that to Nigel Benn who had bigger fame than Joe Calzaghe, being a pro for only 2 years. He was already being hyped up, ready to take on some of the best Americans including Michael Nunn. Infact they were trying to set that up in 1989 before he lost to Michael Watson.
Compare that to Joe Calzaghe who took 13 years and 19 world title wins, just to get the same fame that Nigel Benn had in 2 years.
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
Totally agree. I think some are taking liberties in this thread (which has nothing to do with Calzaghe) just to pile on some hate. Calzaghe was a fine boxer with a lot of skill and beat both of the grand old men of boxing with no questions asked. Calzaghe had limited power, but showed true strength by being able to go 12 with fighters who were stronger than him and still outshine them over the long haul.
Oh, Kessler is shit... he lost to Ward! Oh, Jones is shit...he was blown out by Green! This must mean that Calzaghe was supershit, he couldn't stop anybody! No power, what a fraud! And he got knocked down by both Hopkins and Jones! What an imposter...![]()
Oh i knew Roy Jones Jr was shot way before the Danny Green fight, and way before the Joe Calzaghe fight. I think that showed in the Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson, Anthony Hanshaw fights. And i was one of those calling the fight a farce.
And your fighter Joe Calzaghe even said he would never fight Roy Jones Jr, because beating him now wouldn't mean anything. And that was his own words not mine.
Then what does he do ? he fights the same man he said he wouldn't fight, and then retires on that win trying to convince us what a great win it was, what a joke that was.
As for Mikkel Kessler i've never said he was bad, but i have been saying way before the Andre Ward fight, that no one truly knows how good Mikkel Kessler is. Because he only really fought one good opponent in Anthony Mundine.
And obviously anything he does now will effect the win Joe Calzaghe, had over him just like it would for any fighter. But the fact is he was dominated by Andre Ward in every single way, of course that isn't going to look good how could it ? when the best fighter Mikkel Kessler has fought was Anthony Mundine ?
And as for the other opposition well i covered that already, in my long rant above.
