I can agree with the bit about him feeling lost but the main reason he's coming back is all down to money. If you walked into his gym in Manchester tomorrow and told him he'd have to give every penny he made in the ring away from now on he'd take the gloves off and go straight down the pub.
Yes but those people havent had a highly successful boxing career and been sparked cold and laid flat out on their back in front of millions of people in their last fight.
It's about pride, I know the lad like the back of my hand, and I've been saying ever since people and even himself said he would retire after that loss, that he'd be back. And now he is. And the primary driver has fuck all to do with money. Of course he isnt going to get his head punched in for nothing, and he isnt a charity case. To state that he'd hang up his gloves if he had to give all his earnings from any future fights is a ridiculous statement, of course he would. But you said he is only coming back for the money, which is rubbish. Jeez, he made £20 million plus for the Mayweather fight alone overall.
He isnt a Flash Harry, he doesnt spend a million pounds on a diamond encrusted Jacob and Co watch like Floyd, and he doesnt buy Siberian Tigers like Tyson. Ricky has more money than he could ever hope to spend in his lifetime. Money isnt the issue, your very, very wrong. But think what you like, but your wrong. Straight from the horses mouth, read the last two paragraphs, especially the last one about being on his ass.
Ricky Hatton: "I'm Sick of Hearing About My Weight" - Boxing News
It's all about the money mate. It doesn't matter how much he already has, it's about how much he's leaving on the table and he'll quite happily get his head punched in again to get his hands on it. How he spends it is irrelevant, he may well want it for future kids or future divorces but he definitely wants it. You tell him he'd be fighting for pride only because he has to now give away every penny he makes in the ring and he'd go straight down the pub. And a Ricky Hatton press release is hardly an objective assessment, is it? He's been spectacular at crafting his man-of-the -people image but he's as hypocritical and full of it as anybody else in boxing.
Believe whatever you like pal. I spoke to Ray Hatton a couple of hours ago, and I mentioned this thread and the money issue. Ray said exactly what I have already said. No-one in his family wants Rick to fight, but Rick told his Dad that he never wants the lasting memory of him to be laid out cold. He also said tell you that Richard doesnt even have a clue what he is worth, and he never asks. Knowing Rick like I do I completely understand that. Ray also said that Rick had told him that when he signs the fight and goes back into training, if he feels he has lost the spark, or isnt anywhere near what he was then he will call the fight off before the tickets go on sale.
I know how bad the training camp was for the Manny fight, Floyd Snr killed him. Ray told me Shane Mosleys doctor examined Rick 3 weeks before the fight and diagnosed him with exhaustion, and recommended he didnt fight. It's a fact GBP wanted to pull this fight with 3 weeks to go.
Ray said the reason Rick is fighting again is because he doesnt want to be thinking for the next 5 years, what if I'd had a good camp. Hence the reason he is coming back. If he feels he is lacking in this training camp he will call it a day. If it goes well and he has a good performance, then he will fight again before the end of the year. Ray wouldnt discuss possible opponents yet, he said "Jimmy if I listed all the fighters that we have looked at or who have shown an interest we will still be on the phone in 3 hours time and I have to go and pick Richard and Matthew up as we are off to the Man City game".
So I have told you, Ray Hatton has told you, and Rick has stated his reasons, if not of that is good enough, then I give up.

Some people say boxing is a matter of life or death, it's not, it's far more important than that.
