Shane's smart, he's strong, he has very quick hands, he's not killing himself to make weight, and Floyd can't hurt him.

I think Floyd has been apprehensive about fighting a couple guys at 147 and rightfully so in some cases: Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Shane Mosley, and Pacquiao. Now of course the Floyd fans will say Floyd has little left to prove and those fights didn't make sense etc etc but Floyd's record speaks for itself he never once said "Give me Cotto and I'll beat him" or "Give me Williams and I'll beat him" he simply waited until they lost and said "See, they weren't worthy of a shot vs me" and it doesn't make sense for Floyd not to fight when the money is to his liking. If he was truly "Money Mayweather" he would have fought at least 3 of those guys because you cannot tell me that ANY of those fights wouldn't have made HUGE money at the gate and on PPV.

Stylistically Floyd has very little to offer Shane, the guys who have beaten Shane either use their height and reach (Forrest & Wright) or are durable enough to trade with Shane and get the better of him (Miguel Cotto and to a lesser extent De la Hoya in the rematch was able to hang with him). Floyd has great defense but he isn't as effective until he gets a fighter to tire themself out, vs Judah and Hatton he allowed them to do work early and chase him around the ring while he pot shotted them for at least half the fight knowing especially that Zab would have 0 to offer him later in the fight and that's when Floyd turned it on....Shane doesn't have much in the defense department but he's strong and he's got fast DANGEROUS hands and he's going to beat Floyd.
Lyle i have already said in a previous post , that Shane will win and be the first to drop and hurt Mayweather.
Floyd has already been hurt and dropped. He took a count vs Hernandez. He was floored by Judah but a count wasnt given. He was hurt by Corley and he was almost floored by Hatton in the 1st . Mosley is alot better than those guys.
What you're saying is only partially true. He broke his hand in the Hernandez fight and that's why his glove touched the canvas. His glove also touched against Judah, which should have been ruled a KD in hindsight, but he wasn't badly hurt. Corley buzzed him a bit, but again it's not like he was in danger of being stopped. The only reason he stumbled against Hatton was because he was off-balance, Hatton never hurt him in that fight. IMO Mosley is in for a beating.

Completely agree, Floyd has yet to have been really damaged in a fight and he has definitely been caught more than once on some solid shots. Honestly though I doubt Shane even lands one solid shit. Shane maybe wins 2 rounds

It is crazy if you had asked me about Floyd when he fought Hatton, I would have cursed his name, couldn't stand the guy. After going through and watching a lot of his fights again and maybe just me getting old. I find his style nothing but gratifying lately. This is the first fight I am rooting for him and will continue to do so. He is just incredibly gifted
McGirt recalling the minute break between the 9th round of the Ward fight "He said, 'Help me stand up and I'll finish the fight.'"

I'm similar, against Oscar I wanted him to get beaten into retirement. But since i have sat back and just tried to enjoy his talent and now thats exectly what i do and have become something of a Floyd fan!

I still have hope that there will be the mega fight we all want to see between Floyd and Manny, and a loss by either of them would pretty much kill that fight.

Actually might make it more likely to happen. Floyd fought Zab after Zab lost.

Shane has been held back in his development by not having a strategic trainer. His dad had him "power boxing". Basically that meant using his speed or power to win without any real game plan.

Also Shane always tries to beat people at what they are good at. He became the puncher against Cotto. He had Miguel backing up the whole fight. Training with Naz and Bhop is going to change things. He will fight smart, not just overpowering or overwhelming.

I hate to say this, but Mosley will get easily outboxed. Shane's victory against Margo is still being overhype. Don't fall for that.

Floyd hasn't given a top fighter in the same weight category a beating since Corrales, so I think that idea is just smoke...... Gatti was way way way past his best, and even his best wasn't that great. A slow and bloated Marquez caught PBF square on the nose, so based on that, with his speed and movement, so will Mosely, albeit not a huge land percentage i don't think. I'd say that this is the real test for me, chin..... If Mayweather can take a shot from Mosley, then he takes a tight decision over 12 I think.

Yeah i thought about that, but a defeat now by PBF takes some of the luster off the fight. Roach ( and vile Bob) are well aware of the problems MP faces style wise against PBF and a loss by Mayweather will take away the urgency to fight him.

New Poster and I find this thread very interesting. I will say this, Mosley v Mayweather should've been made a long time ago. But as it stands I'm excited the fight was made. A few points about the combatants:

Mayweather will have an advantage in both hand speed and defense. Mayweather is a very smart fighter and technically sound. He knows when to move, he rolls right hands well and has gotten better at standing in front of his opponent and trading while making them miss.

Mosley will have an advantage in power and we've seen Mosley in with bigger and more talented opponents. Realistically, this is not the same Shane Mosley of his prime fighting days. Fortunately for him, he's got a much better cornerman in Richardson than he ever enjoyed with his father Jack. This could lead to Mosley fighting a much smarter and more disciplined fight.

As far as the two guys most recent fights, I don't put much weight in what they've done against previous opponents. I will however say that Shane has clearly fought bigger, and better opposition than Floyd. IMO, even at his advanced age Shane is the best opponent Floyd has stepped in the ring against. I can't really say the same for Shane.

I will caution those that are basing how this fight will play out based on what these guys have done in their most recent fights to be careful. These guys are totally different fighters from each others most recent fights. Shane hasn't fought a guy like Floyd ever. And Floyd has never fought an equal talent of equal size ever.

The fight IMO will be won in the center of the ring. That in a nutshell is why Floyd should be favored. He is the younger, fresher fighter and he should be able to move and make Shane chase him. (Something no 38 year old fighter wants to do) But Shane has enough boxing saavy, stamina and will to do what it takes to beat Mayweather. This would be to use his jab and force Mayweather to trade. As I see it Mayweather likes to fight at a very slow pace. You generally won't see Mayweather throwing many more than 35 to 40 punches per round. And remember, this is against many fighters that are not naturally his size. This IMO gives Mosley a better matchup than he had with busy fighters like Wright, Forrest, etc. These guys were willing to use their jab, trade, and clinch, hold and frustrate the smaller man. In this fight, there is no size advantage they're essentially the same size and always have been. They've just been in different weight classes for other monetary reasons.

Like I said earlier, this fight should've taken place a long time ago but it is what it is. It was a better fight for both of these guys to determine their place in history than any fight currently on their resume. They were both Lightweights at their best and good enough to beat Welterweights of their era but they weren't really welters. Call it a hunch, but I've always had this sneaky suspicion that Shane was just too tough for Floyd. If Floyd boxes and befuddles Shane with speed and movement I wouldn't be shocked. But something in me tells me that Shane knows he can whip him. I guess we'll see.

I just know him inside out.

    It must be just me

In his own unique way, he does things very much by 'the book'. Move-by-move... I can, quite literally, call his offensive as it unfolds
Read my post properly. I never once said 'that PBF is not a unique and exceptional talent'.
The comment that you know PBF inside out suggest that he is quite ordinary, or you are quite unique. Unique implies one of a kind. How the hell can he be one of a kind when YOU can literally CALL his offensive as it unfolds. Are you then unique also?

Further, there is something very oxymoronic about a unique fighter doing everything by the book. If he did everything by the book it would be easy to formulate a plan to beat him. Floyd Mayweather adapts his strategy in the ring according to what his opponent brings to the table.

I am unique, i am special

By his own, unique book Jason, by his own, unique book. Is it really that hard to understand?
And when did I use the term ordinary?!

Seriously though. I DO find Floyd Mayweather to be somewhat readable in offence. I totally accept that he is a great strategist in the sense that his plan of combat is always the correct in relation to the man in front of him one and that his dedication to his gameplan is absolutely unwavering. He is defensively astonishing and his reflexes are superhuman.

Have I just dug my self a great big whole..? It would seem so!!

But the truth is I respect Floyd very much as a fighter.

One thing I can elaborate on ( ) is the side of Floyd that I find predictable or maybe regimented or readable or even maneuverable (Damn I wish I could find a better word!!) is that these days, about 90% of his offensive arsenal, that thing that keeps him from having to be defensive, he postures quite obviously (to me anyway) and indicatively.

His transition is so silky that it actually has the potential to work against him. You can see, without a punch being thrown, when he is on the defensive and when he is on attack. Why his opponents stand still like a deer in the headlights when Floyd postures to attack and why they then insist on trying to land when he goes into a shell is beyond me.

Step in when he postures, step off when he goes into a shell. Keep your shots straight, especially when he is against the ropes. Utilize an in-and-out movement.
Floyd is happy to put pressure on his opponents and essentially over ride this dynamic whenever an opponent show signs or has the potential of getting it right but that has to be made to work against him.

Jim, I'm just curious, have you ever boxed & if so to what level?

Old JSock or whatever his name is was right though, the 'I can read everything he does' comment was a bit of a one

Haha Maybe i'm just too unique to be understood?

And no I have never even come close to lacing up a pair of gloves. Doesn't mean I can't see what is going on.

it's probably going to be a hell of a wait but i'll quite happily put my neck on the line and say that I guarantee, Sig Beat, with/to anyone, that the guy who beats Floyd, beats him doing the exact things I mentioned

See what you're saying, jimboogie, but the flaw in what you're saying might be that while you find Mayweather to seem somewhat predictable because you can recognize that he reuses tools from his arsenal throughout a fight, and from fight to fight ... the fact that you, as an observer, can recognize this is not the same as to say that he telegraphs his intentions to his opponent in the ring in such a way that he can be reliably countered in his game when he does something that he has done before, and will do again.
