i think its a stamina thing

i think they are evenly matched and in the first 6-8 rounds it could go either way, in fact i think groves hits a bit harder so he has a chance of an earlyish knockout

i reckon tho degale is so relaxed and waists so little energy he will still be fresh when it moves to the middle rounds, where as groves has quite and energetic style

Knowing people who've fought both in the ams, Groves is reckoned to be a much harder puncher, with DeGale a bit quicker in terms of handspeed & a lot in terms of feet & head movement.

Obviously that will have changed a bit given how they've been affected by the pro style, but I'd say it's still fairly accurate.

I reckon that's pretty clear to see from that fight. DeGale looks noticeably quicker but slaps worse than Calzaghe, so it's obvious people would say Groves, who has shown a good dig in the pros too, was the harder puncher. Although DeGale has also shown he's not a powderpuff hitter.

Groves has better success in the third round when he starts feinting/picking his spots before just rushing in letting the punches go, quite interesting as I always criticize him for over cloning Haye's style but it looks like he definitely needed some serious polish.

What a great prospects fight. I just hope it doesn't turn into a quick mismatch. If it does - I'm confident DeGale is the winner.

Yeah, a definite frustration with DeGale is how he doesn't always turn his punches over. I think cloning Haye's style is a problem for him because he lacks the same athleticism and I think that more than anything else is what will do for him against Chunky.

It is a great prospects fight, I just hope that the loser can still comeback from it.

Groves doesn't have Haye's one punch power to quickly end/turn a fight either. Although I did hear him acknowledge this the other week so maybe they are working on throwing more punches.

I hope the loser does well too. I reckon Haye/Booth already have his Thompson loss in mind should Groves lose. Plenty of time to come back.

Groves is holding his left much higher than he does now. He should try and get away from the Haye style a bit for this fight. De Gale will win easily I think.

Im pretty sure it wont be a missmatch

rightly degale has been hailed for his win over smith, it was a great performance

i was singing his praises at the time

but having reflected it was only really great because of the stage of his career he is at, both groves and degale should really go well past where smith has been at

smith is pretty slow and cumbersome and doesnt hit hard and doesnt throw fast punches, he is good at most things without really excelling at anything, and thats only at a level

Groves has fought better opposition than degale, maybe smith would be the best out of all the combined fighters they have fought but it would be close

list all their opponents, and rank them, without geeking on boxrec id say something like

    smith
    anderson
    adamu
    that mexican fella
    samuels

    actually i forgot about dilks

he would probly beat samuels, but i reckon degale got that fight handed on a plate
