A month removed from the eagerly anticipated rematch bout between WBC Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (24-1-0, 16KO) and former champion and #4 rated WBC contender Adrian Diaconu (26-1-0 15 KO), both boxers underwent the required WBC 30-day safety weigh-in yesterday. The weight limit for such requirement was set at 192.5 lbs.
The world champion registered a weight of 184.3 lbs. This weigh-in took place at the Olympic Centre in Colombia and was certified by Dr. Juan C. Quicenz. Pascal is currently training in Bogota, Colombia to take advantage of the high altitude in his preparation for this monumental rematch bout.
This bout will mark the second defense of his world title following his TKO 10 victory over mandatory challenger Silvio Branco (59-10-2, 36KO) last September 25 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Adrian Diaconu underwent the safety weigh-in at the InterBox gym located at the Claude Robillard Centre in Montreal, in the presence of Quebec Combat Sports Commissioner Mr. Michel Hamelin.
Adrian made his way for a short visit to Montreal before returning back to his training camp facilities in Altona, New York where he has been training for the last few weeks.
Both athletes went toe to toe for the first time last June 19 in a tremendous all-action fight that will certainly go down as one of the best fights in Quebec Boxing history. Not surprisingly, that bout is also a candidate for Fight of the Year honors for 2009 in the International scene.
Both athletes are content with their preparations so far, and are confident to win the December 11th rematch. “Jean Pascal has something that belongs to me, the WBC belt. The last fight was very close and I will make the necessary adjustments to beat him. I promise everybody that I will do whatever it takes to win,” states Diaconu.
“I like Adrian a lot as a person but I will have no compassion for him on December 11th. I want to get him rid of him once and for all. He will see at what point I have progressed since our last fight,” states Pascal.
