Boxing Perspective: A Merry Christmas For Jean Pascal

Jean Pascal is set to fight Adrian Diaconu in a rematch bout on December 11, 2009. In their last meeting, Pascal won by unanimous decision which also provided him with Diaconu’s WBC World Light Heavyweight belt.

There is no doubt that Jean Pascal is the favourite to win once again. For Pascal and his promotional team, Groupe Yvon Michel, this will be a good Christmas filled with offers for fights with top contenders for top money.

At the moment, Jean Pascal is going through his best moments as an athlete. At the weigh-in on November 12, 2009, both Pascal and Diaconu made the weight qualification but only Pascal looked relaxed and light on his feet. Fresh from his knockout defeat of Silvio Branco, Pascal has every reason to feel in control and confident.

Diaconu on the other hand has not fought since his lost to Pascal in June and before that, he fought a very weak David Whittom in early April. To add some lustre to the bout, Eric Lucas will be part of the undercard as he attempts a return to boxing by taking on an Argentine boxer named Ramon Pedro Moyano.

Looking towards the future, Jean Pascal has a great year ahead of him in 2010. His stock is on the rise as is his reputation grows for being fast on the ring and having an extremely effective jab.

Look for Pascal to possibly take on Carl Froch next year or to take on a big name in the light heavyweight division. Maybe even a super fight against his rival from Montreal, Lucien Bute? We can only hope!
