*I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
Ok, so I think I'm finally ready to admit a few things that need to be said.
1)I have been an avid PBF basher for since his move from 130. I have said how I think his lack of engaging makes for boring although technically fantastic fights. That doesn't make um easier on the eyes, though.
Feeewww... OK, here we go.
After the Hatton fight I thing we have all seen a Floyd we have not seen in a long time and we were treated to as exciting a fight as it was technically sound. Thank you Ricky for bringing out the best in Floyd.
Can't wait to see what the future holds for Ricky either. He is a great champion.
So I'm finally ready to give Floys his due.
2)We all know that I'm a huge Manfredo fan (ok... stop laughing)
I'm finally ready to admitt that he is a C level fighter who just doesn't have the mental chops to fight on a world level. Do I think he has the ability? Yes. But until he breaks through that wall C level is going to be as far as he is gonna get. Do I think he can hold a major strap? Yes but not at 168. He looks tired and lathargic after 3 or 4 rounds. His body looks soft. Not at 160. He fought best at 154. I don't care what he says. 154 is where he belongs.
3)Calzaghe is going to own Hopkins. I'm saying it now. Yes I'm from the US and love Bernard but Joe will be to much for him. End of story.
4)Kelly Pavlik will end the rematch sooner this time. KO5
5)Klitscho will destroy Ibragimov with his jab. You need to get through that to get to Wladimir. He won't.
Just some things I wanted to get off my chest;)

Sorry but im massive Mayweather fan but i didn't think Hatton vs Mayweather was exciting at all, it was mostly a clinchfest Mayweather vs Chavez was about 10x better than Hatton vs Mayweather, plus Mayweather has had much better offensive fights than that Hatton one.
See people are underestimating Hopkins, One thing you must realize is that Calzaghe isn't just going to go in there and out work him, Hopkins is a great technical fighter and one of the smartest fighters in boxing, he can offset Calzaghe's rhythm with clinches etc, and he can also slow him down. Calzaghe has struggled in rough tough fights with Bika, Salem, Reid, now people might say he fights to the level of his opposition, which some of that is true, but its also to do with Calzaghe losing concentration easily, overall i see Calzaghe winning a close decision but it won't be easy by any means.
I think Taylor will be much more cautious in the rematch, but Kelly Pavlik's longer jab will force Taylor to fight, i don't think it will be as good as there 1st fight but i see Pavlik winning between 8 or 9 rounds.

On Floyd
I think you are absolutly right. I stated that this was the most exciting fight since he vacated 130. Not of his carreer. You have to agree with that.
On Calzaghe Hopkins
I don't think it will be easy but I do think it will not be as close. I think that Bhop will slow him down signifigantly and drop the tempo of the fight but I do think that Calzaghe's workrate will win the day.
On Pavlik Taylor
KO5;)

Sorry but i disagree i think Mayweather's had many exciting fights since leaving 130, that are better than the Hatton fight.
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Jesus Chavez
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Phillip Ndou
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Jose Luis Castillo 1
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Burton
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs DeMarcus Corley
Just to name a few.

I really have to say that these 3 were very exciting but we haven't seen him in an exiting fight in a while prior to hatton.

Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
Until Mayweather faces somebody who is a threat than I'll become a PBF fan. I admire his skills but for the past number of years he has handpicked opponents that are not high caliber besides being world champions, bring on Cotto or Williams but no he's too scared .

Lets face it Hatton is a natural 140 pounder and struggled against Collazo previousley at Welterweight so did Hatton have a chance ??.

But wasn't you the one that said that it was just an *off night* against Collazo. And wasn't you the one picking Hatton to win ;)

No mate you will never find me saying Hatton has an off night against Collazo, I give it to him by 2 points but I admit he looked hopeless at welter.
I was picking Hatton to win as I'm sure you would pick PBF over Cotto or Williams as he's my favourite fighter but looking back in hindsight Hatton had virtually no chance with his style against PBF's and PBF IS ducking the other welters FACT, at least Hatton's not scared to lose his "0".
-
Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
i think the hype of the fight is what made it exciting.
All the crap from PBF and hatton during the fight made me Yawn (damnit wheres my smileys)

When i mentioned Collazo fight im pretty sure your the one who said Hatton had an off night vs Collazo with making weight etc, i would pick Mayweather over Cotto and Williams because he is the better fighter. Not just because Mayweather is one of my favorite fighters, see now Hatton has lost you say he had no chance but thats not what you was saying before the fight, and if Hatton would of won you wouldn't be saying that either, and its opinion that Mayweather is ducking Williams, Cotto, not a fact, just like Hatton is ducking Witter is an opinion not a fact ;)

Is not a fact Hatton is ducking Witter because Hatton has said one day he could fight Witter he does not rule it out.
I said Hatton had 5 weeks or something to prepare for the Collazo fight and for him to do that on his first trip to welter and beat Collazo and knock him down is damm good considering Floyd needed a trial at the weight which included a shot Sharmba Mitchell, pointless fight that was ;)
And I always thought Hatton could beat PBF but ask Ono, I sent him a PM saying I feel PBF could win or something along the lines of that so I was not 100% adamant Hatton would win as that would be stupid considering he is fighting Floyd Mayweather, going to HIS preffered weight and HIS backyard.
BTW Floyd in many people's eyes is ducking Cotto and Williams and for some reason everyone is round Hatton like flies on shite talking about him ducking Witter and Floyd goes for the money route in a part time fighter in De La Hoya next and nobody mentions nothing about fighting somebody who would give him problems and don't say ODLH will give him problems in the second fight as even you said he won the first by 3 rounds so why is Floyd taking a rematch. Looking for the easy option if you ask me to avoid Cotto and Williams who he's scared of ;)
If you were Hatton after a crushing KO loss would you take on Witter ATM who is full of confidence and has an awkward style ?? I doubt it.
Hatton needs a couple of fights to build his confidence up before he owns Witter's ass like he has done to everybody else at 140!!!

Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
Golly gee, when I read the title of this thread I was expecting Pride to announce his "coming out of the closet" celebration. Guess it's a little premature yet.
Anyhoo; I couldn't see how anyone wouldn't see the greatness in Floyd in the 1st place. Guys beat everyone put in front of him, and most with an ease that is almost absurd in its effortlessness. :pMy only complaint is this b.s. rematch with Oscar; as he should be fighting Cotto if he wants to claim best 147 around; or even PW, as he is a major threat.
As far as Hopkins/Calzaghe goes, I would be shocked to see Joe run circles around Hop. Hopkins has been there done that and Hop will be up for this fight like no other; especially since there is that "clash of countries" thing and he won't want to be beat much less embarassed by a "foreigner"{a white one at that}lol. Expect a war inside to say the least.
Manfredo is still a joke:D

LOL thanks for the insight, LEGION!
No, I'm not quite ready to come out of Narnia... I need to feel mor comfortable...
I never said I disagreed with him being a great boxer... I just haven't been a fan of his adopted style of late.
Joe will not run circles arounf Bhop but he will win the fight

LOL, just messin' with you Pride.
I hope Calzaghe beats him and beats him bad, but I think that old lion Hopkins has got some major reserves in the tank that we will see come fight night. I was originally hoping this fight wouldn't happen, but I am really looking forward to it now.

What are we supposed to say now? I punched your ass out! nice post!
no more CC.. that was too easy..
Anyway.. I hope Hopkins wins, and i think he will be able to do it if he gets off to a decent start.. I have this bad feeling that he'll fall behind early and get started in the 6th-7th round alla Jermain Taylor (which was probably something like the 8th-9th in that fight)
And i'm pulling for Taylor again in the Pavlik fight.. Do i think that Pav could knock him out earlier this time? Sure.. Taylor needs to win the fight within the first 5 rounds.. He will only win this fight by KO because sooner or later Pavlik WILL catch him..

Im not saying you did for 100 percent thought Hatton would win, but you along with the Hatton fans were still predicting a win for Hatton, you all said he would be one of Mayweather's toughest fight, and now Mayweather KO's Hatton in impressive fashion you Hatton fans say Mayweather *picked* his fight with Hatton, and i think that is very unfair.

These *people* who are saying Mayweather is ducking Cotto, have no evidence to back there claims up, its there opinion and until they can back it up with solid evidence which i haven't seen yet its only an opinion who no substance behind it. The reason Mayweather is taking the ODLH fight is because he is getting a ton of money much more money than he will get for a Cotto fight, plus it will be much bigger PPV. Just look at the PPV ratings Cotto got for his last few fights, then look at what Mayweather vs ODLH got on the PPV ratings it was one of the biggest ever, theres a big difference. Now i may not agree with it but it is good business sense, and if i was in Mayweather's shoes i would probably do the same.

I have already said Hatton deserves a confidence booster first, but if Witter beats Hopkins and Hatton has his confidence booster fight. If he then doesn't fight Witter that is going to raise a lot of question's and ditto with Mayweather as well.

I agree. People can say what they want... They had a falling out and this and that... At the end of the day, this fight needs to happen. Hatton knows this. Witter knows this.
Mark my words. It'll happen;)

Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
I admire your enthusiam regarding Peter Manfredo Pride. I agree he's not cut out for 168 lbs where he's lost to the likes of Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy.
He should go back to 154 lbs where he lost to the likes of Alfonso Gomez and Sergio Mora :)
-
Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
Takes a big man to admit when he's wrong Pride,So I'll be looking for another similar thread after hopkins gets done with calzaghe ;).It may not be pretty but It'll fall into that backslide, hardright & maul ,Body shot, spin hook etc. type affair.Im a convert on Joe,I like him but the key for him is workrate with volume punching and momentum.I think that if/when Hopkins offsets Calzaghes forward tempo and gets him stationary, even for a short bit....Its deepwater for Joe.Ive been waiting for Hopkins to get old overnight for a looong time?? One things for sure,Hopkins better not f!!! around and try to put on a masterpiece.....IF he clips Calzaghe bad,Go for the finish & Vice versa for Joe.
Agree with ya on Mayweather.I think his mouth can outshine his talent to some but the man has superb skills and talent.Deserves mass respect. IMO,He must face Cotto,Cintron,Margarito,Williams etc at least one of them, rather than a retread payday with DeLaHoya.Another win over Oscar proves natta's.
Little green box filling to ya (what do we call that) Rep points? weak.

Actually yes. 154 is where he had the most pop. Manfredo had been fighting 10 round fights when he dropped down to fighting those friggin 5 rounders... he was fighting a 5 round fight at a ten round pace. His bad
He avenged that loss to Mora. fuck what that fucked decision was!
Gomez is a little better then people thought... Course Cotto is gonna make him look like a bus hit him.. and like I said Peters pace that fight was for shit.

Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
Thats exactly what i just said it isn't a fact just like your comment about Mayweather ducking Cotto, Williams, isn't a fact either.
Okay then that's my opinion.:)
Collazo was virtually unknown by most boxing fans at the time, he was considered to be an easy victory for Hatton at Hatton's new weight, most people were predicting a KO early for Hatton, just like Mitchell was supposed to be an easy victory for Mayweather at Mayweather's new weight, the only difference is at least Mitchell had a name and at least Mayweather beat him in impressive fashion, where as Hatton didn't.
Collazo was a world champion which is a big difference in this matter. Also Collazo had beat Rivera was his name ?? who went on to become the light-middle champ so he was no joke if you look at his record and those "most people" must have undersetimated Collazo to come to that conclusion Hatton was in for an easy night as thats bullshit IMO as they never took into account it was his first time in America, new weight, expectation on his soldiers, world champ on his hands, southpaw in which he's always had problems with etc etc whereas Floyd was fighting somebody totally SHOT ;).
After looking back at the fight I don't think it was unfair as Hatton's style played into Floyd's hands perfectly so Floyd knew what he had to do to win easy and thats exactly what he did and let's remember he was fighting against a natural 140 pounder who struggled at Welterwight previousley.
These *people* who are saying Mayweather is ducking Cotto, have no evidence to back there claims up, its there opinion and until they can back it up with solid evidence which i haven't seen yet its only an opinion who no substance behind it. Cotto, Williams and Cintron have all called Mayweather out and PBF has not replied to any of them and IMO he is ducking Cotto and Williams as he wants to protect his unblemished record as he knows he will get beat and the funny thing is, he calls himself "Pretty" :D
On the ODLH subject that shows what Floyd is, going for money instead of securing a legacy, he should take a leaf out of Hatton's book and Floyd lost ALL of my respect for that, what a discrage not going for the tougher fights that when people look back at his record and will look not in admiration but saying oh there he is making money fights which the ODLH fight is. Has'nt he got enough cash already ?? greedy twat
I have already said Hatton deserves a confidence booster first, but if Witter beats Hopkins and Hatton has his confidence booster fight. If he then doesn't fight Witter that is going to raise a lot of question's and ditto with Mayweather as well.
A totally agree but we cannot dispute this matter as it has not happened yet.

Your high as a kite if you think Floyd is ducking Williams and Cotto.. The same Cotto who has never beaten a world champ for a title or the same Cotto that has NEVER beaten a elite fighter in his prime..
Williams fought Margarito and thats it... I think Williams has tremendous upside, but I'm yet to hear Williams or Cotto along with there promoters openly call out Floyd and try to make a fight.. Besides at this juncture the closest those guys will get to Floyd depends on if he hires either to be his cleaning lady... They both need a few more impressive wins abd fanfare befor the fight makes sense

Re: *I'm finally ready to do it... ::deep breath::*
I agree with most of what was said except i'm not ready to commit to joe beating hopkins. I've doubted the old man too many times. At face value joe looks to be an easy favorite but hopkins always finds a way.

Rivera won a vacant title big difference he was never that good, the fact is hardly anyone on this forum had heard of Collazo, most people were predicting a quick easy KO win for Hatton, it was supposed to be gimme fight for Hatton to win an easy title off an unknown opponent, but things didn't work out as planned. I already know Hatton has had problems with southpaws since he was an amateur, but regardless he was the big favorite and its easy to say that Collazo was a dangerous well known opponent with hindsight, but the fact is most boxing fans did not see it that way at all at the time including me. This is going way off subject i don't even know how this subject got brought up ?? one last thing Mitchell even though he was shot was a much more well known name that Collazo was and thats a fact.

Yes it is unfair because your looking back with hindsight, what you are saying now is nothing like what you was saying before the fight, you was predicting that Hatton would win and would give Mayweather his toughest fight of his career. I could do the same with any fight like Jones vs Tarver 2 i can look back and say *yes looking back i knew Tarver would KO Jones* but that would be BS because i didn't say anything of the sort before the fight. Your saying Mayweather handpicked the Hatton fight, which is very unfair considering how much of a chance you and all the Hatton fans gave him.

Thats what every boxer fights for Lee *Money* its good business sense. Mayweather will make a ton of money beating ODLH your telling me you wouldn't take a rematch with a guy you already beat for all that cash ?? because i know i would. Cotto has not that done well on the PPV ratings, Mayweather is the much bigger draw, Mayweather is just waiting for the right opportunity the fight Cotto he is waiting until Cotto makes more of a name for himself, guarantee you now that Cotto vs Mayweather will happen at the start of 2009.

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Jesus Chavez

Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Jose Luis Castillo 1
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Emanuel Burton
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs DeMarcus Corley
Just to name a few.
Hey Ice, you'd probably know the answer to this, was Chavez actually 1-12-1 going into that fight or was his record closer to the record his people gave of 22-16?

Wrong Jesus Chavez. He's talking about the one he defended his WBC Junior Lightweight title against. Not the one he fought in his 9th fight

Thanks VD, I didn't realize there were two of them.

I jumped off the Manfredo bandwagon after the Lacy fight. I've decided that he's too lazy to make weight and condition properly, and that he'd rather lose on his feet than try to win and get KO'd. The Lacy fight was there for the taking, but he quit as soon as he got his bell rung. He had a real chance against Lacy if he would have stayed outsided, used movement and jabbed, like he did for the first few rounds, but instead, he did that lazy-ass in fighting, smothered himself, and got outworked. That crap cost him the 1st fight with Mora, and it it shows that he's not interested in being great. He'd rather skimp on roadwork and eat veal pizzaoli and be a journeyman SMW than do the work it takes to be a champ or real contender at 154.
It's real waste of a good set of boxing skills.

Yea VD is correct there are two of them, the Chavez that Mayweather fought early in his career, Mayweather actually suffered a cut by a headbutt, thats the only time i can remember Mayweather actually being cut in a fight. And as for the other Jesus Chavez the much better one, he gave Mayweather all he could handle he was throwing about 100+ punches a round, i used the Jesus Chavez argument to support why i thought Mayweather would beat Hatton, Chavez was landing at a very low percentage though and Mayweather was wearing him down the longer the fight went on, Chavez took a hammering in the 9th round his head was constantly snapping up from Mayweather's brutal uppercuts it was quite brutal to watch. Chavez's corner stopped the fight because he was taking too much punishment, but what a fight it was one of Mayweather's best.

Mitchell even though he was shot was a much more well known name that Collazo was and thats a fact.
That's true but Collazo was more of a threat if you take everything into account.
Maybe all what Hatton said "I'm going to beat him, he's faced nobody like me etc " went to my head and for some reason I believed him and I myself underestimated Mayweather after the Castillo and ODLH fights where they pressured him at times and I had not focused on Floyd's better wins.
They have called Mayweather out ?? thats news to me because i haven't seen one article where either of those guys called out Mayweather.
Cotto and Williams have both stated they would want to fight PBF and Cintron always says it.
Thats what every boxer fights for Lee *Money* its good business sense. I really hope thats true as Cotto would be a very hard fight for Floyd and ATM I'm dissapointed at Floyd as he's took the money route and not the route to secure his legacy.

He's local. I support local guys until they prove they don't deserve my support, and right or wrong, I cut them a little more slack.
