Promoters Impact Boxing revealed today that they had received an approach by Sports Network (Frank Warren) regarding the possibility of, popular Stoke lightweight, Scott Lawton becoming a future opponent of Olympic silver medal winner, Amir Khan. Impact Boxing’s Mick Carney said:
"We have a number of opponents in mind for Scott and Amir Khan isn’t currently at the top of our list. |
We would have considered the fight over 8 rounds but Khan’s team was not prepared to go beyond 6 at this stage in his career. We will keep in touch with the Khan camp and expect to see the match happen at some future date since we believe that it’s a fight that the Stoke boxing public deserve to see at the Kings Hall (Stoke).”
Scott Lawton said:
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Amir Khan, he’s doing a lot to raise the profile of British boxing and I’d be more than happy to face him in the ring at any time”.
Lawton next appears at Stoke’s Kings Hall on May 6th when he defends his Midlands Area Lightweight title against, former Khan opponent, Baz Carey. Khan faces former Hungarian Lightweight Champion, Laszlo Komjathi, at Belfast’s Kings Hall on May 20th.
Tickets for Scott Lawton’s 6th May bout are available by contacting: 0797 182 4337
