When the 20th anniversary celebration of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING continues on Oct. 7 at 9 p.m., ET/PT (delayed on the west coast), Diego “Chico” Corrales will face arch nemesis and former 130-pound world champion, southpaw Joel “El Cepillo” Casamayor.
The rubber match of an outstanding, hard-fought series will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and take place at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Corrales (40-3, 33 KOs), of Las Vegas, by way of Sacramento, is the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion. He is 8-1 in world title fights. Casamayor (33-3-1, 21 KOs), of Miramar, Fla., by way of Guantanamo, Cuba, is 7-3. In the co-feature, Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan (26-0, 21 KOs) will risk his International Boxing Federation/International Boxing Organization (IBF/IBO) flyweight crowns against world-ranked Glenn “The Filipino Bomber” Donaire (16-2-1, nine KO’s)
DIEGO CORRALES (40-3, 33 KOs)
“I’m ready to go. There’s no need to talk. The nonsense is over. I’m in great shape and ready for Saturday.”
JOEL CASAMAYOR (32-3-1, 20 KOs)
“I’m prepared for anything – a knockout or a distance fight. I’m ready to rumble, ready to go.
“This is the new Joel Casamayor. I cleaned house, I have a new trainer, a new camp. I’m ready for anything.”
VIC DARCHINYAN (26-0, 21 KOs)
“Twelve rounds is a long time. That’s 36 minutes. We’re not going to be fighting for 36 minutes. I’m going to knock him out.
“I actually had a friend call me yesterday and wish Donaire good luck, because he’s going to need it.
“This will be a good fight. I’m going to knock him out.”
GLENN DONAIRE (16-2-1, 9KOs)
“I’m going to give it all I’ve got. I’m very excited for this fight.
“I’m going to make him (Darchinyan) eat his words. If they judge me by my last few performances they will be mistaken. I’m a different fighter now.
