Sherman Williams-Gonzalo Omar Basile Headlines Stevie Johnston-Fernando David Saucedo Co-Feature “Big Drama in Little Bahama,” January 27 in Nassau, The Bahamas

Bahamian heavyweight Sherman “The Caribbean Tank” Williams returns home to defend his WBC CABOFE & NBA titles on January 27, headlining “Big Drama in Little Bahama” against WBC Mundo Hispano title-holder Gonzalo Omar “El Paton” Basile, at the Kendal Isaacs National Arena in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Three-time world champion Stevie “Lil But Bad” Johnston fights Argentinean champ Fernando David “El Vasco” Saucedo for the vacant IBA lightweight championship in the 12-round co-feature.

Silverhawk Championship Boxing is presenting “Big Drama in Little Bahama” in association with Bahamian Sons Promotions.

“Silverhawk Boxing wants to give fans what they really want, highly competitive matches, and that’s what we’re doing January 27,” Silverhawk Boxing vice president of boxing operations Jeff Grmoja said. “Silverhawk Boxing wants to be one of the elite promoters and putting our guys in tough is the best way to do that.”

Williams (31-10-2, 17 KOs), born in Freeport, returns home to fight there for the first time since Sherman stopped Leon Turner in the fifth round of their June 12, 2004 bout at The National Arena. Currently riding a six-fight win streak, Williams captured the WBC CABOFE (Caribbean Boxing Federation) last December and added the NBA title this past February. He successfully defended both crowns in his last outing (August 4 in Las Vegas) by first-round TKO against Josh Gutcher (18-5). Williams’ most notable wins have been against previously unbeaten Frank Wood (16-0, TKO2), Cisse Salif (9-2-1, DEC6), and Al “Ice” Cole (31-9-2, DEC10).

Basile (25-2, 12 KOs), fighting out of Buenos Aires (Argentina), stands 6-6 and weighs in at 240 pounds. He won the WBC Mundo Hispano heavyweight title in March and successfully defended it in August with a 10-round decision against Edgar Da Silva (24-7).

Johnson (39-4-1, 18 KOs) captured the WBC lightweight championship twice between 1997 and 2000, making seven successful title defenses, and he added the IBO light welterweight title last January that he has since abdicated to go back to his natural lightweight division.

Stevie’s impressive list of victims during the course of his illustrious pro career includes world champions Sharmba Mitchell, Jean Baptiste Mendy, Saul Duran, Cesar Bazan, James Page, Angel Manfredy and Alejandro Gonzalez. He’s also defeated major world title challengers such as Hiroyuki Sakamoto, Ever Beleno, Julio Alvarez, Billy Schwer, Aldo Nazareno Rios, Demetrio Ceballos, George Scott, Mark Fernandez and Corey Johnston.

Saucedo (25-4-3), also fighting out of Buenos Aires, went the distance against the great Acelino Freitas in 2004, marking the last loss on Saucedo’s record.

Also scheduled to fight January 27 in Nassau is IBO Intercontinental middleweight champion

Aaron “Homicide” Mitchell (25-1-1, 20 KOs) against an opponent to be determined.
