Japanese Super Feather Uchiyama Is WBA Boxer Of The Month

Japanese boxer Takashi Uchiyama, super featherweight world champion was chosen by the ratings committee as the Boxer of the Month of the World Boxing Association.

So was announced in the last ratings running from December 6, 2014 to January 5, 2015. The results of the fight held after January 5 will be taken into consideration for the next ratings.

Uchiyama (22-0, 18 KO) defeated Israel Pérez by TKO 9 last December 31, 2014 in Tokyo.
This was the ninth title defense by Uchiyama.

On his behalf, the Argentinean Juan Carlos Reveco (35-1, 19 KO) won the Honorable Mention after defeating Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep on December 19 in a unification title bout.

This was the sixth defense of Reveco.

The World Boxing Association sanctioned 71 title fights during 2014, beating the 65 title bouts recorded in 2013.

Of those contests, 13 were held in December, the busiest Championship month, while April and September totaled 9 fights each making them the other busiest months.

The first bout sanctioned by the WBA in 2014 was the 10th title defense of the Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, against Osumanu Adama made in Monaco on February 1. The Kazakh won by TKO 7.

The WBA sanctioned 9 super championship fights, 5 unifications and 5 vacant title bouts, plus 24 optional defenses and 23 interim title fights.

As for the results of those 71 fights, we have that 14 ended by KO, and 24 ended by TKO. 21 ended by unanimous decisions, 5 split decisions and 5 majority decisions.

There were two technical decisions, one on May 31 in Macao, China between Nonito Donaire and Simpawe Vetyeka, and the other on September 26 between Juan Carlos Payano and Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno.

On February 27, WBA Fedelatin Cruiserweight champion Yunier Dorticos from Cuba, will defend his title against the Russian Murat Gassiev in Los Ángeles, California, USA.

Both fighters are undefeated in their professional career. Dorticos’ record is 18-0, 17 KO while Gassiev’s is 19-0, 13 KO.
Dorticos is the third rated contender of the division where Denis Lebedev is the world champion.
