WBA Update: Scott Quigg, Gennady Golovkin, Hekkie Budler

The London Ex-Boxers Association have honored WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg.

The boxer himself made the announcement, and publicly thanked the organization for the award “I feel very proud and honored to receive the award as the British fighter of the year by the London Ex-Boxers Association.”

Quigg, 30-0-2, 22 KO’s, is professional since 2007 and was WBA Inter Continental titlist in 2010, interim world champion since 2012 and regular champion since 2013.

In 2014, Quigg made three defenses of the WBA title. He won two of them by TKO, against Tshifhiwa Munyai and Stephane Jamoye, and the other by decision against Hidenori Otake.

The WBA middleweight super champion, the Kazakh Gennady Golovkin, is already in Monte Carlo, waiting for his fight this Saturday night at Salle des Etoiles, Monaco, against Martin Murray.

Golovkin is the WBA 160 lb title owner since 2010, and has made 13 defensees and also one defense of the WBC interim title. He is undefeated after 31 vctories, 28 by KO.

The referee for Golovkin vs. Murray is the Puerto Rican Luis Pabon, while the cards will be added up by South African Stanley Christodoulou, appointed by the WBA; while Fernando Barbosa (US) and Jack Woodburn (CAN) were appointed by the WBC.

Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, vice president of the WBA, will be the supervisor of the fight.

WBA minimumweight champion, South African Hekkie Budler, is ready to defend his title this Saturday at Salle des Etoiles, Monaco, against Mexico’s Jesus Silvestre.

The fight is on the undercard of the middleweight super championship fight between Gennady Golovkin and the British Martin Murray.

Budler (27-1, 9 KO), is the regular champion since his victory over Karluis Diaz in January, 2014. He was previously the interim champion of the division. Silvestre (30-5, 22 KO) will make his third challenge of the black and gold belt.

The Mexican was interim champion and makes his second attempt for the world title. He failed the first attempt against the Japanese Ryo Miyazaki in 2013.

The officials appointed by the WBA to work in the fight are Stanley Christodoulou, as referee, with Luis Pabon (PUR), Philippe Verbeke (BEL) and Pawel Kardini (POL) as judges. Gilberto Jesus Mendoza will be the supervisor.
