Universum Champions Night Tonight At The Bördelandhalle In Magdeburg

The boxing hotbed of Magdeburg, Germany, has another big event on the horizon. Topping the November 17th “Universum Champions Night” at Bördelandhalle, WBO #2 heavyweight Alexander “Sascha” Dimitrenko (26-0, 16 KOs) from the Universum stable faces his toughest challenge in longtime contender Timo Hoffmann (36-5-1, 20 KOs) of Sauerland Event in an important crossroads bout. Also, WIBF featherweight champion Ina Menzer will defend her title against Laura Serrano.

Two big men from the Spotlight Boxing team in Hamburg have been added to the huge November 17 “Universum Champions Night” card at the Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany. WBC #1 ranked heavyweight Vladimir “The Hunter” Virchis (23-1, 19 KOs) will take on dangerous Robert Hawkins (22-9, 7 KOs).

The Kiev based Virchis is ranked in at least the top seven of all the rankings organizations. He is hoping to land a fight as soon as possible against WBC champion Oleg Maskaev or WBC interim champion Samuel Peter.

Also on the card is highly regarded cruiserweight Grigory Drozd (27-1, 21 KOs), who defends his WBO Asia Pacific belt against against power-puncher Laudelino Jose Barros (25-1, 23 KOs) in a bout that promises fireworks. “The Pretty Boy” Drozd is rated WBA #3, WBO #5, WBC #6 and IBF #8. His only loss was to current WBA interim world champion Firat Arslan in an eliminator.

Universum heavyweight Alexander „Sascha“ Dimitrenko (26-0-0 (16)), the reigning WBO-Inter-Continental-Champion, is positioned in the Top 12 of WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF . At the WBO he is already rated at #2 and according to his coach Fritz Sdunek he is ready for a shor at one of the world championship belts next year. The 25 year old „Sascha“ Dimitrenko has won all of his 26 fights and demonstrated his power in his last bout in July when he finished off Malcolm Tann in impressive manner by KO.

Alexander Dimitrenko: “Finally, I am in Magdeburg. It is my first time. I have always heard about the great fans here. Timo Hoffmann naturally knows me very well. He has already boxed some of my stablemates. He’s a big guy and a very experienced boxer. But on November 17th there will only be one winner and that will be me. Becoming a world champion remains my big goal.”

Dimitrenko’s trainer Fritz Sdunek: “I’ve known Timo Hoffmann since 1990 and have always followed his career. He has previously faced other boxers of mine in the ring. Timo Hoffmann is like the weather-today rain, tomorrow sunshine.”

Timo Hoffmann: “I have already had great success in Magdeburg as an amateur. Finally I’m able to box here as a professional for my fans and friends in a home game. I have much respect for Alexander Dimitrenko, he is a great Boxer and I look forward to this terrific fight.”

Hoffmann’s trainer Uwe Schuster: “Timo is extremely motivated. He can only win because he doesn’t have a load on his shoulders.”

Also, WIBF featherweight champion Ina Menzer (18-0, 8 KOs) will defend her title against Laura Serrano (16-3-2, 6 KOs).

Ina Menzer: “I know the Mexican Serrano….she is very experienced and has a good record. This will be my third appearance in Magdeburg, and so far I have only the best memories. I am very optimistic and will win.”

In other action, heavyweight Evgeny Orlov (3-2-1, 3 KOs) and welterweight Oliver Güttel (9-1, 5 KOs) will go against opponents to be named.
