It took Andreas Kotelnik almost eight years to win a world title and the 30 year old showed that he isn’t ready to part with it yet, outpointing southpaw challenger and longtime Japanese Light Welter titlist Norio Kimura in dominating fashion at the Sportspalace in Lviv, Ukraine last night.
Hometoen hero Kotelnik won on wide margins 119-109 twice and 118-110 to retain the WBA Light Welter trophy he won in March of this year against Gavin Rees.
Kotelnik improves to 30-2-1 (13), and may next defend in November against Dmitriy Salita at Madison Square Garden in New York. Kimura saw a 17 bout win streak snapped and goes to 34-6-2 (18).
Heavyweight Dieter Roth, 19-0 (12), also saw action, posting an eight round decision over Edgar Kelnars, 17-15 (9).
