Golden Boy Boxing: Undercard For “Fight Night At Sundance Square”

Oscar de la Hoya’s “Fight Night at Sundance Square” in Ft. Worth, TX, has proven to be a showcase for many of boxing’s top prospects and the 6th annual event on Friday, May 8 will be no different.

Three of the sport’s top undefeated prospects, including Dallas’ Charles Hatley, will be featured on the undercard.

Hatley was one fight from representing the United States the 2008 Olympic Games in Bejing, China, but fell short. Despite losing in the finals of the U.S. Olympic Trials, Hatley is consider by many to be the best young junior middleweight prospect in boxing.

Now 2-0 as a professional, the 23 year-old Hatley will put his unblemished record on the line on May 8 along with fellow undefeated prospects Carlos Velazquez and Adrian Broner.

Hatley will be featured in a six round junior middleweight contest, Velazquez, 9-0 (8), of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico is scheduled for eight rounds in the junior lightweight division and Broner, 8-0 (6), of Cincinnati will see action in a four round lightweight fight.

Opponents for Hatley, Velazquez, Broner will be announced shortly.

“I’m pumped up about this opportunity,” stated Hatley. “Getting a chance to fight on a card promoted by Oscar de la Hoya and televised by ESPN’s Friday Night Fights…man, that’s what it’s all about for a young fighter like me. I’m looking to let the boxing world know who Charles Hatley is and this will be my first opportunity to fight in front of so many people as a pro.”

According to De La Hoya, he’s all too pleased to give young prospects an opportunity on his Golden Boy Promotions cards.

“It is important that we provide the fight fans with a chance to see the best young fighters in the world,” the Ten-Time World Champion stated. “We not only have a terrific main event between Vera and McEwan, but we also have some very talented prospects on the card. Somewhere down the road, you’ll probably see these undercard fighters become a world champion. They are all that good.”

The main event on the ESPN Friday Night Fights Broadcast pits Fort Worth native and “Contender” star Brian Vera, 16-2 (10), against undefeated Craig McEwan, 14-0 (9), of Edinburgh, Scotland in a 10 round, middleweight bout.

The first bout is scheduled for 8:30 pm and will take place in the heart of Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth, TX. A temporary stadium will be erected on the Chisholm Trail Mural parking lot, located at the corner of 3rd and Houston St.
