Golden Boy Boxing Announces August 27 “Fight Night Club” Lineup

By Boxing Press August 26th, 2009 All Press Releases

Southern California's hottest new boxing series is back with the third installment of Golden Boy Promotions' "Fight Night Club" as California locals pack an exciting undercard at L.A. Live's Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Thursday, August 27th.

In the main event of "Fight Night Club", top bantamweight contender and 2004 Olympian Abner Mares (18-0, 11 KO's) of Montebello, California and native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico battles Santo Domingo's Carlos Fulgencio (11-3-1, 7 KO's) in an eight round fight.

The co-featured bout of the evening sees Oxnard's David Rodela (13-1-3, 6 KO's) facing once-beaten Bayamon, Puerto Rico native Gamalier Rodriguez (8-1-2, 4 KO's) in a six round junior lightweight bout.

Also in action on the August 27th Versus broadcast and webcast will be a matchup between flyweights Sergio Espinoza (16-5-1, 5 KO's) of San Diego, California and David Gaspar (10-2-1, 7 KO's) of Torrance, California, who will compete in a four or six round bout.

22-year-old Ricky Lopez (5-0, 2 KO's) of Oxnard, California is off to a fast start in his professional career and he's already built a following at Club Nokia, where he defeated Rufino Serrano and Eder Peralta respectively in his last two bouts.

He'll be attempting to make it three in a row when he takes on Ecuador native John Wampash (1-1-1, 1 KO) in a four round featherweight bout to open the televised show.

Former National Amateur Champion Carlos Molina (8-0, 4 KO's) has already achieved a lot in the fight game at the young age of 20, but the Commerce, California native has only scratched the surface on his amazing talent in the ring.

Unbeaten in eight professional fights, Molina is coming off a fourth round TKO of Ever Luis Perez in his last bout at Club Nokia on July 30th.

However, looking to spoil his perfect record is Kansas City's Antony Nelson (7-10-1, 7 KO's), a hard-hitting battler who is coming off a second round stoppage of Cody Bell on July 3rd. Molina and Nelson will meet in a four/six round junior welterweight televised swing bout.

Opening the night of boxing will be debuting junior welterweight Juan Heraldez of Las Vegas, who will face Los Angeles' Luis Tapia (1-2) in a four rounder.

"Fight Night Club" is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and AEG and is sponsored by Quaker State, EA Sports' Fight Night Round 4 and Vitamin Water.

The series will return to Club Nokia on September 24th. Televised bouts will air live on Versus and will be streamed live on RingTV.com and Yahoo! Boxing beginning at 6:00pm PT/9:00pm ET. Doors open at 5:00pm PT and the first bell rings at 5:30pm PT.

Tickets, priced at $65 (Mezzanine VIP), $50 (Lower Mezzanine), $40 (Upper Mezzanine) and $28 (General Admission: Floor standing room), may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 online at www.ticketmaster.com or thru any Ticketmaster outlet or the Staples Center box office.

Group tickets and full series tickets at a discounted rate are also available by calling 1-877-AEG TICKETS (1-877-234-8425).

"Fight Night Club," is Golden Boy Promotions' and AEG's critically acclaimed new live monthly boxing series, that presents boxing in a night club atmosphere, with a DJ, music, great food and a VIP room, as well as a unique setup where the ring is on Club Nokia's stage with standing room for fans in front of the ring, as well as reserved seating in the balcony. After the boxing action ends, fans are invited to stay to hear great music played by LA's hottest DJ's, dance and mingle with the fighters as the venue converts back into a night club.
