KZ Boxing: WBA Sanctions Campillo vs. Shumenov Rematch

By Boxing Press October 9th, 2009 All Press Releases

KZ Event Productions, Inc. and Sampson Boxing LLC are pleased to announce that the WBA has officially agreed to sanction the upcoming rematch between WBA Champion Gabriel Campillo and Beibut Shumenov as a bout for the WBA World Light Heavyweight Championship.

The bout will be promoted by KZ and will take place at a date and location to be determined, but in no event later than February 28, 2010.

Beibut Shumenov, who also serves as KZ’s president, stated that he was excited to get back in the ring with Campillo.

He further noted that he accepts the representation of the Campillo camp that neither Mr. Campillo nor any of his camp violated the WBA’s banned substance rules in connection with the first Campillo/Shumenov bout, and has therefore withdrawn any such claim to the contrary that has been made to the WBA.

Gabriel Campillo stated he too was excited about the rematch. Both Campillo and his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, went on to state that all issues concerning monies due to them in connection with the first Campillo/Shumenov bout have been resolved, and that they have therefore withdrawn any such claim to the contrary that has been made to the WBA.

They further stated that that they accept the representation of KZ and Shumenov that KZ and Shumenov have at all times acted in good faith with respect to financial issues, and that the delay in payment was solely the result of a good faith dispute between the parties.
