Boxing In Mexico: Arce vs. Angkota For WBO Title Tonight

One of the most popular boxers in Mexico is in action tonight at Restaurante Arroyo in Mexico City as Jorge Arce looks to bounce back from defeat by challenging for the vacant WBO super fly title.

Arce, 52-6-1 (40), has lost two of his last three during the last year and is coming off a failed bid for the IBF super fly crown against Simphiwe Nonngqayi this past August.

The 30 year old from Los Mochis will be the favorite this evening as he faces Indonesian veteran Angky Angkota, who rides a six bout win streak into Mexico City.

Angkota has faced the same level of competition as has Arce but the 28 year old Semarang resident holds a victory over Sonny Boy Jaro and over the last five years has only come up short against big punching AJ Banal by decision.

Angkota has only been 12 rounds twice in his career and Arce could look to take his opponent into the later rounds where the Mexican’s big fight experience could prove to be insurmountable.

The undercard sees a clash for the vacant WBC super bantam belt as Jackie Nava, 20-3-2 (10), goes up against Shantel Martinez, 8-3 (1), over ten scheduled rounds.
