WBA Mourns Passing Of Former Champion Andrew Lewis

On Monday 4, 2015, former WBA welterweight champion Andrew “Six Head” Lewis died in a tragic accident.

Lewis was the first world champion from Guyana, winning the title on 17 February 2001, against James Page. He then made his first defense against Ricardo Mayorga, the bout ending after a head-butt forced a No Contest result.

In the rematch the following year, Mayorga dethroned Lewis by fifth round stoppage.

Lewis died at the age of 44 in an accident when he was on his bike and was hit by a car.

The WBA family, chaired by Gilberto Mendoza, regrets the tragic death of a man who was a great athlete. Peace to his soul.
