20-year-old Kim Poulsen (4-1, 1 KO) will not be getting a “walk-over” opponent when he fights in Soumagne, Belgium on September 29. The Danish super featherweight prospect will face his first undefeated professional foe in Tomasz Kwiecien (1-0) from Poland, and Poulsen expects a tough and competitive challenge.
“I am up-and-coming and he is up-and-coming, and non of us expect to loose, so it is bound to be an exiting fight. But I am confident, well-prepared, and want to show that I am on my way towards a bright future,” says Poulsen after sparring seven high-paced rounds with undefeated Norwegian talent Andreas Evensen Monday afternoon.
Sparring with Evensen will continue throughout this week, before Poulsen and trainer Brian Mathiasen will finish off training and head to Belgium late next week.
Manager Henrik Risum reveals that Kwiecien was not his first choice as opponent for Poulsen, saying:
“I was again hoping to make a rematch with Tony Jourda, but the rules in France are still that their boxers must come off a victory or a draw before being allowed to fight abroad, and Jourda hasn’t boxed since loosing to Paul Halpin in June. We still hope to make that fight at some point, but it is not easy.”
Jourda is the guy who, in the opinion of most of those who saw the fight, got a very undeserved decision over Poulsen last April in London in what is the only blemish on Kim's record.
