European Boxing News: Povetkin, Rogan, Stieglitz, Asloum, Huck, Mormeck, Jackiewicz

Russian heavy Alexander Povetkin has pulled out of the fight against Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko with the vacant European title at stake. The deadline for pursebids or agreement was tomorrow.

According to Sauerland Event´s CEO, the decision to pull Povetkin out was because they didn´t have any TV date before August 29.

Dimitrenko will now face the highest available challenger which could be Commonwealth champ Martin Rogan.

SES have announced a rematch between Robert Stieglitz and Lukas Wilaschek as the chief support to Botha vs. Hoffmann on May 15 in Magdeburg. Stieglitz won the first fight on a split decision in what was for the vacant WBC International belt.

WBA light flyweight champ Brahim Asloum will have his first fight since December of 2007 on April 27 in Cannet-Cote d´Azur and face Mexican Humberto Pool in a non-title encounter over ten rounds. The fight goes out live for a fee of 3.80 Euros over brahimasloum.com

Marco Huck defends the European cruiserweight title on May 9 in Bamberg against Ukrainian Vitaly Rusal. In the chief support EE-EU ju nior middle champ Alexander Abraham faces Magomed Abdurakhmedov from Russia but fighting out of the Czech Republic.

Heavies Cengiz Koc and Oleg Platov are again on the bill but if the actually will get in the ring remains to be seen – it´s an interesting matchup though between two guys who, early on, promised a lot but have failed to deliver.

Former cruiser champ Jean Marc Mormeck makes his debut as a heavyweight on July 11 in Paris. In the headliner, European lightweight king Anthony Mezaache defends the title against Ukrainian Andrei Kudriavtsev.

Undefeated Belgian Stephane Jamoye challenges WBC Youth bantam champ Pungluang Sor Singyu on May 9 in Loncin. In the chief support, junior light Ermano Fegatilli clashes with Spaniard Jesus Escalona Garcia.

Pole Rafael Jackiewicz has relinquished the European welter title to concentrate on a possible IBF eliminator. Belgian Jackson Osei Bonsu and Italian Gianluca Branco are co-challengers for the vacant title.

Juergen Haeck and Kobe Vanderkhove battled to a technical draw on Friday night in Gent in a fight for the Belgian welterweight title. On the undercard, tough journeyman Ismail Abdoul returned after a spell behind bars and stopped Giovanni Jemma in the fifth.
