At the Robin Park Sports Centre, Wigan, Saturday night – Steve Wood (VIP Boxing) hosted an entertaining night of boxing which headlined the Lightweight British Classic Challenge Title between Steve Brogan of nearby Skelmersdale and Jamie Quinn of Stourport.

Brogan secured the belt with a comfortable 80-73 points win over a lively opponent.

The night featured twelve contests in all, streamed live on VIPBoxing.TV

Other Results as follows:

Shayne Singleton (Colne) v Wayne Reed (Sheffield)
6 x 3 Welterweight Contest

It was a bit of a nightmare for Singleton this time out. The popular Colne man found himself on the canvas in the opening seconds of the first round, but he makes Reed pay for it later in the round – backing him on the ropes and offloading a barrage of shots. He comes out more motivated for the second round but almost goes down again – having walked on to Reeds’ shot. His legs seem to stiffen a bit but he carries on.

Reed sustains a cut to the left eye area (below the brow) in round three and it spurs Singleton on. Reed, distracted by the bleeding wound, takes some shots, then – out of the blue – Singleton is on his backside (!) The Colne man is visibly annoyed with himself and looks to his corner where trainer Karl Ince also looks frustrated.

Round six and Reed is bleeding from the right eye area as well. Fighting has become frantic and now he too finds himself on the canvas. He gets up and still manages to stun Singleton with another shot.

A thrilling contest which sees Singleton win on points 57-55

Lee Oldham (Debut) (Lancashire) v Robert Studzinski (Llanelli via Poland)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

A good performance from young debutant – Oldham, who starts to land some solid body-sots in round three. By the fourth and final round, Studzinski is clearly hurting from the many body-shots he’s taken.

Oldham gets off the mark with a good points’ win 40-36

Jack Flatley (Bolton) v Mark Till (Stoke-on-Trent)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Flatley started out busy in round one and Till’s nose was already busted and bloody by the middle of the frame.

There wasn’t much coming back from Till after that and fighting became messy.

Flatley wins on points 40-36

Ryan Mulcahy (Liverpool) v Nikita Gultjajevs (Riga, Latvia)
4 x 3 Super-Lightweight Contest

A quick nights’ work for Mulcahy who scored a knockdown in 38 secs of round 1. Gultjajevs stood for the count but looked dazed and was made to sit and recover.

Mulcahy wins by first round TKO

Louis Cuddy (Liverpool) v Hrvoje Kisicek (Croatia)
6 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

Liverpool’s ‘El Campeon’ made short work of Kisicek who was on the canvas twice inside the opening minute of round 1. The second time, although he was up, Referee Howard Foster waved the contest off – with Kisicek deemed in no condition to continue.

Cuddy wins by TKO in 55 secs of round 1

Ian Halsall (St.Helens) v Darren Pryce (Newport)
4 x 3 Super Bantamweight

Pryce got off to the quicker start in this scheduled four rounder and had a good round with Halsall seemingly ‘switching on’ by the end of the round. Halsall kept focused and picked it up in round 2. Pryce starts to tire in the third frame and Halsall steps up.

In 1 min 10 of round 4 Pryce is on the canvas and, on one knee, is counted out by Referee Phil Edwards.

Halsall wins by KO round 4

Morgan Jackson (Blackburn) v Dan Blackwell (Trowbridge)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Stocky looking Jackson lands some solid punches on experienced Blackwell but it was a close contest. Blackwell has a good round three, although he miscalculates the distance on occasion and, missing with two or three swinging shots, he grins to himself.

Jackson switched off in the fourth round and Blackwell looks to be toying with him as he edges round the ropes.

Jackson gets the points’ win 39-38

Tom Barlow (Debut) (Wigan) v Danny Brown (South Woodham Ferrers)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Debutant Barlow got off to a great start – downing his opponent in the opening round.
He looks to make Brown miss with shots in rounds two and three and gets the points’ win 39-36

Mike Stafford (Southport) v Igoris Borucha (Lithuania)
4 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

Stafford wins on points 40-36

Rick Godding (Bolton) v Chris Jenkinson (Bolton)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

A close contest between these two with Godding nicking the points’ win 39-36

Tom Farrell (Liverpool) v Chris Truman (Birmingham)
6 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Truman was stopped in 2 mins 20 of round 1
Farrell aka ‘Fazza’ wins by TKO Round 1
