Michael Katsidis defends his WBO Interim Boxing Title against Joan Guzman

By Boxing Press May 8th, 2007 All Press Releases

Golden Boy Promotions in association with Walt Lambert, Northeast Promotions and Sampson Lewkowicz, Ringstar Promotions present “RELENTLESS” live on HBO Boxing After Dark on May 26, 2007 from the Anaheim Arena in Anaheim, CA.

The main event will be Michael “The Great” Katsidis (22 – 0 20KO’s) Toowoomba, Australia defending his WBO Interim Title against Joan “El Pequeno Tyson” Guzman (27 – 0 17KO’s) Brooklyn, NY.

Katsidis captured the WBO Interim Title on February 17, 2007 at the Wembley Arena in London, England. Katsidis pulverized his opponent Graham Earl (25 – 1 12KO’s) in 5 grueling rounds of non-stop action. Katsidis was in control of the fight from the opening bell as he became the first Aussie of Greek descent to ever win a world title.

Guzman in his last outing on December 18, 2006 in Santo Domingo, DR scored a unanimous decision over a crafty Antonio Davis (22 – 3 11KO’s) to win the WBO Superfeather weight crown. Guzman is moving up in weight to challenge “Katsidis The Great” in this highly anticipated match up.

Lambert states “This fight is expected to be the highest rated show in HBO Boxing After Dark History.” “I expect Michael to prevail and when the American boxing audience sees Michael for the first time, no doubt due to his determination, work ethic and at the same time being a modest and humble person he will be embraced by the American audience and on his way to being America’s next boxing superstar”. “We will do what is necessary to ensure Juan Diaz honors his agreement with the WBO to fight Katsidis next”. “I would like to sincerely thank Golden Boy Promotions for this opportunity and also for having a highly talented and exciting undercard”.
