There was some great undercard action on Friday night at the Harvey Hadden Sports Complex, Nottingham.

Dale Miles (Alfreton) v Janis Chernouskis (Latvia)
6 Round Welterweight Contest

Miles gets off to a fast start and Chernouskis spends much of his time covering up. Within seconds – the Latvian’s face has already reddened from the punches. It’s a nice display of boxing from the Shinfield’s fighter who pressures his opponent in the corner mid-way through this first round.

Landing left and right hooks and decent body-shots, Miles dominates. Sky Sports Stats reveal that Miles has thrown 33 punches in the opener as opposed to 6 from Chernouskis.

Round two and Miles continues to pressure Chernouskis, but he drops his gloves slightly and Chernouskis gets in with a decent straight left. Miles persists with shots to head and body driving his opponent back against the ropes.

In the last half minute of the frame Miles unleashes a barrage of shots and Chernouskis is smothered on the ropes finally falling to the canvas from two left hooks to the head. Chernouskis gets up for the count but looks unsteady and Referee John Keane waves it off.

Miles wins by second round TKO and improves to 7 wins (4 by KO) no losses while Chernouskis falls to 3 wins (3 by KO) 7 losses (1 by KO).

Larry Olubamiwo (Hackney) v Yavor Marinchev (Bulgaria)
6 Round Heavyweight Contest

The “War Machine”, Larry Olubamiwo, looks huge next to Marinchev and starts off well in this scheduled six rounder.

Olumbamiwo targets the body of his opponent at the start of round two and – landing a solid right hook to the body just after the first minute – sends Marinchev to the canvas. Laughing – he stands for the count. Fighting resumes and Olubamiwo looks for another body-shot.

Looking to be taking his time – there was always a sense that Olubamiwo ‘could’ have taken Marinchev out if he ‘went for it’. But Marinchev does well to stay in the fight and sees it through to the end of the sixth.

Olubamiwo wins on points (60-54) and improves to 6 wins (5 by KO) and 1 loss. Marinchev drops to 5 wins (3 by KO) 17 losses (1 by KO).

Scott Haywood (Derby) v Scott Woolford (Ramsgate)
8 Round Welterweight Contest

“Super Scotty” Haywood got off to a good start in the early rounds but a barrage of shots from Woolford in the fourth saw Haywood sustain a bad cut above the right eye.

Referee John Keane calls time in round five while he gets the ringside Doctor to inspect the cut. Fighting resumes but Haywood – sensing the urgency now – ups the pace. Round six sees him rush at Woolford digging in the body-shots.

Desperately trying to get the knockout – Haywood throws punches but his elbow goes in and Referee Keane warns him for it. With less than a minute of the sixth remaining, Referee Keane calls time again to look at Haywood’s cut and makes the decision to stop the contest.

Woolford wins by TKO round six and improves to 10 wins (3 by KO) 4 losses (1 by KO) while Haywood drops to 19 wins (4 by KO) 5 losses (2 by KO).

The Light Heavyweight Contest between Ovill McKenzie and Joey Vegas did not take place after Vegas pulled out the day before.
