Arena Boxing: Airich vs. Saglam November 12 In Germany

Arena CEO Ahmet Öner will present a “Heavy Night at the Baltic Sea” on November 12th in Stralsund. German hard-hitter Konstantin Airich (16-2-2, 13 kos) faces unbeaten Turk Yakup Saglam (26-0, 23 kos).

Airich is best known for losing a controversial slugfest to Danny Williams in May 2008 in Spain when both men had been knocked down and the fight was stopped by Airich’s corner throwing in the towel in the 7th round.

The fight will be for the vacant PABA heavyweight championship belt. Russia’s Denis Bakhtov had won the title in June 2009 against German heavyweight hope Steffen Kretschmann and succesfully defended the title in a re-match against Kretschmann in March.

Because of an injury Bakhtov had to relinquish the belt. The new PABA champion will most probably enter the Top 15 in the WBA ratings leading the way to a possible world title shot against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.

“This is the big chance for both guys” says Ahmet Öner, promoter of both fighters. “The winner will take an important step to the top. I can only say: May the best man win.”

In more heavyweight action Czech prospect Ondrej Pala (27-2, 19 kos) will return to action as well as former German amateur standout Erkan Teper (1-0, 1 ko) who faces experienced Alexander „the Great“ Kahl (15-6-1, 13 kos) in his second pro-bout.

Other fights feature German talents Dennis Ronert, Mike Keta, Rico Schultz, Domenic von Chrzanowski, Turkish prospect Murat Öner and in the only female fight of the night Özlem Sahin.

Doors at the Vogelsanghalle (HanseDom Stralsund) open on November 12th at 6.00pm, the first bell will be at 6.30pm. Eurosport broadcasts the main events live starting at 8.25pm Central European Time.
