Ryan Burnett is almost having to pinch himself. The Ricky Hatton-trained prospect is only two fights into his professional career and already he’s preparing to box at Belfast’s biggest indoor venue.
The 21-year-old bantamweight will feature against a soon to be confirmed opponent on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s European and IBF Intercontinental title defence against Jeremy Parodi on October 19.
And he’s keen to put on a memorable display so he can add to his already impressive fan base.
“I’m desperate to put on a good show,” the 21-year-old said. “People in Belfast love to follow boxers and although I’ll have a lot of fans there, I hope to win a few more over as well. I’ve working on a few new things in gym so I’m looking to make this performance better than my last fight and my debut. I’m hoping people go home talking about me.”
The bill will be screened live in the UK by specialist network BoxNation. For Ryan this means a first opportunity to box live on television as a professional.
“I’ll be on TV for the first time but that doesn’t make me nervous, it just makes me more determined to put on the best performance I can,” he sais. “My goal is to get where Carl has got to and to do that you’ve got to be on TV and on big shows.
“Like everyone else, I want to headline shows myself one day and be fighting for titles.
“Being top of the bill at the Odyssey Arena is where I ultimately want to get to, but I know I’ve got a lot of developing to do. It’s still early days and I learned a lot in my last fight so now I want to show how much I’m improving.”
He added: “Ricky and the team will keep getting me the right fights at the right time and I’ll make sure I’m ready to fight whoever is put in front of me.”
