Boxing Info: Froch squares up to Tyson

British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch put a fearsome opponent through his paces earlier this week: Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson.

The 29-year-old, who meets long-term rival Tony Dodson this Friday live on Sky Sports 1 at 10pm, headed to the City Ground in his hometown to train with his fellow local sporting star – in both disciplines.

“The Cobra’ took Tyson – who came off the bench at the weekend to score a last-gasp equaliser for Forest – through the boxing basics, before impressing with a session of “keepy-uppy’.

“It’s all good for Nottingham at the moment,” Forest fan Froch said afterwards. “A while back everyone was a bit down, particularly when Forest were relegated, but it’s all turned round.

“I’m ranked number three in the world and I’m about to win the British Title outright. Forest are flying high at the top of Division One. They are 6 points clear and there is no doubt they will get promoted the way they are playing. Forest are on the way up; I think they can reach the top flight again.”

“That’s some pressure!” Tyson replied. “You’d better be a world champion soon.”

The pair are mutual fans. Froch cheers on Tyson from the stands at every home match and the striker generally returns the favour. This Friday, however, playing commitments will prevent him from being ringside.

“We’ve got Milwall on Saturday – so I’m under curfew,” Tyson explained. “My wife is going though, so I will get her to give me a full report.”
