It was a noisy, excited atmosphere at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England on Saturday night for the VIP Promotions fightnight put on by Steve Wood and featuring popular boxers Stuart McFadyen, Brian Rose and Alex Matvienko.

Stuart “The Burnley Banger’ McFadyen faced Wolverhamptons’ Delroy Spencer in a super bantamweight contest of 6 two minute rounds.

It was a fast-paced bout with both fighters landing some good shots, but it was McFadyen who looked the more concentrated of the two as he listened intently to his trainer between rounds.

Another win on points takes likeable lad McFadyen to an unblemished record of 7 professional wins, 1 by way of knockout, against no losses. Spencer falls to 10-56-3 (1).

Popular Brian Rose of Tameside faced Lee Noble of Barnsley in a four round light middleweight contest. Rose, of Bobby Rimmer's gym, looked cool and focused as he stood in the ring, ready to take on Noble of the Ingle's stable.

It was a war of a contest; the action was fast and furious as both men slugged it out. There was no mistaking the trademark Ingle moves of Noble, as his outstretched arm teased Rose.

An exciting and very evenly matched contest, the crowd were noisy and Rose's stablemate Michael Gomez was out of his seat for most of the fight as he shouted instruction to Rose from his ringside position.

But it was Rose who clinched it in the last round and it was Noble who sustained a graze under his right eye from Rose’s punches.

As MC, Michael Pass announced Rose the winner by 39-38. Noble could not contain his disgust, “What a joke”, he gestured to the crowd, clearly believing he had won the fight. Those at ringside agreed it was a very close call.

Rose improves to 6-0 (1) while Noble falls to 7-4 (1).

Alex Matvienko of Bolton again faced Sunderlands’ Martin Marshall in a six round light middleweight contest. Having drawn when they first faced each other just two months ago, both fighters were looking for a clear win this time.

But within seconds of the opening round, Matvienko sustained a bad cut to the right brow. Blood was dripping from the wound and the Bolton man did well to concentrate during that first frame. His corner did a great job on the cut during the intermission and Matvienko got back in to the fight.

It was a bit sloppy at times with Marshall holding Matvienko down on numerous occasions and there were a couple of low blows from Matvienko. But it was Matvienko who had the better work-rate during the fight and having coped with a bad cut from the start, deserved the 59-55 points win over Marshall.

Matvienko runs his record to 8-0-2 (2) while Marshall now stands at 8-10-3 (0).
