Former unified welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga has been acquitted of rape charges in his native Nicaragua. Mayorga was accused of abusing a female in a hotel before leaving the scene of the alleged crime and spent some time being hunted by Nicaraguan police. However, Mayorga always insisted that nothing improper had occured between himself and the woman, stating that he gave her some money and that they left on good terms. Mayorga was cleared to fight Felix Trinidad in October while the charges were still pending but once beaten by Trinidad he maintained that he would face the legal process knowing he was innocent. Mayorga stated that he would retire after the Trinidad fight but soon changed his mind and an official announcement is expected to signal when he will fight again and against whom. stay tuned for more on Mayorga as it happens.
