You couldn’t miss Richard Towers if you saw him in the street, but Ricky Hatton reckons he is the best kept secret in heavyweight boxing.
Towers who is 6ft 8in tall and hit the scales at 17 stone is looking to make a dent in Britain’s best heavyweights after teaming up with Hatton Promotions.
The Sheffield boxer, 30, has stormed to seven wins since turning professional last June – with his last five victories all coming inside three rounds.
On Richard’s Hatton Promotions debut last month he knocked out tough Bulgarian Yavor Marinchev inside two rounds. And he bids to continue winning ways in his home city at Ponds Forge Leisure Centre on Friday 21st May.
Marinchev recently took Olympic bronze medallist David Price the distance and Hatton said: “That win was televised and was a big statement.
“I know Richard turned professional late on, but he is improving so quickly that he could be ready for British and Commonwealth titles inside 12 months.
“Myself and Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams are very excited. I am sure matchmaker Richard Poxon will make the right matches to develop him.”
In the show’s bill topper Ryan Rhodes makes the first defence of his European light-middleweight title against Italy’s former world title challenger Luca Messi.
The show will be made up of some of Britain’s best young boxers including unbeaten St Helens middleweight Martin Murray who will feature in a title bout.
Former British champions Steve Foster Jnr and Andy Morris are also in action on the talent stacked bill which will be televised live by Sky Sports
